Common Causes for Missing Media in AnkiHub

Based on our community resources, here are some potential reasons for missing media:

  1. Media sync still in progress - Check your AnkiHub add-on to see if it shows “Media sync: Downloading” instead of “Media sync: Idle”

  2. Subscription to incorrect deck version - Make sure you’re subscribed to the official version of the deck

  3. Protected fields issue - Media might be missing if you have unprotected fields that AnkiHub doesn’t provide media for

How to Check Your Media Sync Status

  1. Open Anki and go to the AnkiHub add-on
  2. Check what the media sync says:
    • “Idle” means the media sync should be complete
    • “Downloading” means the media has not finished downloading yet

Note that it may take up to 60 minutes for media to fully sync depending on your internet connection.

Possible Fix: Reset Local Changes

If you’ve confirmed the sync is complete but still have missing media:

  1. Go to Browse
  2. Click on the AnkiHub add-on at the top

Suddenly, most of my cards are missing media in the anking step decks. Tired of resetting local changes and subscribing to the deck on AnkiHub, but am missing the image files in the extra section of 4000+ cards.

Hello,

I understand that you have already reset local changes and resubscribed to the deck.

Could you please tell me if you have your “Extra” field unprotected (unchecked)? This tutorial can help you with that: How to Manage Protected Fields

After ensuring the field is unprotected, please click the save button and then try resetting local changes again: How to Reset Local Changes

Just to clarify, Anki’s built-in “Check Media” tool can sometimes show a “missing files” report even when no media is actually missing from your AnkiHub decks.

Also, please note that to access the First-Aid or Boards and Beyond content, you will need a separate subscription to that resource.

If this didn’t solve the issue, please send us a screenshot of a card with that problem so we can investigate it further. :blush:

Yes, the extra field was already unprotected. Here is an example of a card with the missing info. It seems like all of them are from the PACE subcategory tabs (EOR/PANCE).

Can you tell me if these buttons are clickable or grayed out on this card?

Something isn’t right. If you reset local changes and the card is correctly linked to AnkiHub (meaning the buttons are clickable), the card should be up-to-date. In my Anki and on AnkiHub, the card differs from yours.

When you refer to the buttons being greyed out what do you mean? Sorry Im not understanding

Sorry, I could have explained that better. When I say “grayed out,” I mean the buttons are not clickable.

Could you please try to click the “View on AnkiHub” button? Let me know if you’re able to click it and if it works. If it does, it means the card is from AnkiHub and not an unlinked copy, which would explain why the images aren’t showing up.

Also, did you have any other AnKing decks before downloading the AnKing Step Deck from AnkiHub?

Yes, that link works! And cannot see the image on ankihub either.

I looked more deeply into the problem and figured it out. The issue is that the affected cards are not from the AnKing Step Deck. They are from the EndeavorOverhaul deck, which is not an official AnKing Step Deck.
