Missing images from AnKing Deck

I recently downloaded the AnKing v12 deck. I am missing a lot of images to the point where hundreds of cards are unusable. Some cards are fine and others only have the missing media icon. It is not an issue of having an unprotected field and I have reset local changes. When I run a media check I have 8,000 missing files. I previously used v11 for about a year so I have the first aid images and the first aid images are still appearing on my cards.

I’ve tried following the instructions on both of these help pages but it has not resolved the issue.

I’ve attached a screenshot of a card with missing media. This card has two missing images on the front side and a missing image on the back side so it is completely useless. Any help will be appreciated.

I’ll help you with your missing images issue in the AnKing v12 deck. Let me search for relevant information that could help solve this problem.

Reading: Anki Hub images still missing!

Hi Egarzella,

I can see you’re having issues with missing images in your AnKing v12 deck. This is a common issue that can happen for several reasons. Let me help you troubleshoot:

First, check if AnkiHub is still downloading media

  1. Go to the AnkiHub add-on tab and check if the media sync status says “Idle” (meaning the download is complete) or “Downloading” (meaning it’s still in progress).
  2. Media sync can take up to 60 minutes depending on your internet connection.

If media sync is complete, try these solutions:

1. Reset your local changes

  • Go to Browse in Anki
  • Click on the AnkiHub add-on tab at the top
  • Click “Reset all local changes”
  • Select the AnKing deck

2. Check your protected fields

The fact that your First Aid images are showing but others aren’t suggests this might be a field protection issue. AnkiHub provides media for specific fields in the AnKing Step Deck:

  • Text
  • Extra
  • Sketchy
  • Pixorize

If you’ve unprotected fields that AnkiHub doesn’t provide media for (like the First Aid field), you may see missing images.

3. Import media from previous version

Since you mentioned you previously used v11, you might need to import media from your previous deck:

  • Use AnkiHub → Import Media to import your previous media files
  • This feature can import from folders, .apkg files, Google Drive links, or Mega links

4. Specific to Physeo images

If the missing images are in the Physeo field, you may need to download their image pack separately if you’ve unprotected that field.

For more detailed guidance, please check these helpful resources:

Let me know if you’ve tried these steps and still have issues!

Hello,

It seems you’re encountering a known bug where media doesn’t show up. To help us investigate this, could you please try the following?

  • I believe that may have been a typo. The issue is typically caused by having protected fields, not unprotected ones. Please ensure the field is unprotected (the box should be unchecked). If that was the misunderstanding, please try resetting your local changes again: How to Reset Local Changes

  • Please upload your logs. Here’s how:

    1. In the Anki app, navigate to the menu: AnkiHub > Help > Upload Logs.
    2. A filename will be shown in a confirmation pop-up. Please copy and paste that filename here for us.
  • Please use the “Check Media” tool again and send us a screenshot of the results.

We’ll await your response to continue our investigation.

My log file is: ankihub_addon_logs_d0fe0_1756234467.log

Here is a screenshot of my check media:

Thanks

Just so we make sure, did you double checked if the field is unprotected?

They should be like this:

Yes my fields are unprotected.

Hello again @egarzella,

Just one last thing. I’m not sure if you had tried resetting your local changes.

Could you please try the steps in this tutorial, even if you’ve already done so?

Please let me know if this works for you!

I did already try that but I just did it again and there was no change.

Gotcha, let’s look at a couple of things and try something from another angle, to see if that helps:

First, from within Anki, click on the top menu bar: Anki - About Anki. See what your version number is. If it’s anything other than 25.02 (or higher) you’ll want to update: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

Once you’ve done that, if you don’t already have the AnKing Note Types add-on installed, you’ll want to install that to make sure that your note types are fully up to date. From the top menu bar: Tools - Add-ons - Get Add-ons, and insert this code: 952691989.

Once you’re done with that, restart Anki and it should prompt you to update your note types. Go through that, and once you’re done restart Anki one more time.

From there, go to your top menu bar: AnKing - AnKing Note Types, and from the resulting screen make sure that the ‘Update notetypes’ button at the bottom is grayed out. If it’s grayed out, you’re fully updated. If it’s not, click on that to update again (sometimes it takes doing it twice).

Once that’s done, restart Anki once more and then follow this tutorial to reset local changes after having update your note types: Resetting Local Changes

Give those things a shot, and let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there.

I did all of that and it fixed many of my cards but not all of them. I am still missing images in several fields including some which make cards unusable.

Can you share some screenshots of the specific cards in question that are not displaying appropriately, just so I can see what you’re seeing?

Here are some of the cards.

Gotcha, thanks for that.

Just since it’s been a couple of days, and I want to make sure we’re not overlooking anything, can you:

  • Confirm for me the version number of Anki that you’re using.
  • Confirm for me that the ‘update notetypes’ button in your Anking Note Types add-on options menu is grayed out.
  • Confirm for me that, after that, you have reset local changes

Just to make sure we’re circling the wagons appropriately and not overlooking anything obvious

I am using anki version 25.02.6. I updated the notetypes and reset local changes several times including this morning.

Looking more closely through my cards I now have about 3400 cards tagged as missing media which is a big improvement from the 8000+ I started with. Some of the cards are only missing images in the resource fields and I’ve been able to study with those. Unfortunately there’s still a good number missing images in the text or extra fields which I can’t use.

Hmm, I don’t believe that most notes in the AnKing deck use media in the Additional Resources field, if that’s what you mean

If you can, can you share some screenshots of what you’re currently seeing? Just so I can see what you see

I do notice that you have the ‘Additional Resources’ field protected, which may likely be playing a role there, FWIW.

I didn’t mean the additional resources field, I was talking about fields named after resources. like “Pathoma”, “Sketchy”, “Picmonic” etc. Cards missing images from those fields are still useful for studying as I have all the card info, just not the explanations.

At this point I’ve reset local changes several times and I’ve noticed something interesting. After I reset local changes I have about 3,000 missing images.

The next time I sync I’m given this prompt:

After I hit download from anki web and it finishes syncing I am back to missing 8000 ish images again

Screenshot 2025-09-04 at 21.02.25

I have absolutely no idea how this could be happening but I seems to lose images when I sync with anki web.

Hello,

Please reset local changes again and then click “Upload to AnkiWeb” instead of “Download from AnkiWeb”.

AnkiWeb is a service from Anki (not from AnkiHub) that backups your collection to the cloud. So if you click download, you are just keeping the same cloud version with the issues.

Yep, it is the case that you will overwrite your local collection if you click ‘download’, as indicated in the on-screen message:

You might try resetting local changes and then selecting ‘upload’ as suggested by MarcosZan and we can go from there.

I did as instructed and now I am only missing the 3381 images.

Just to clarify, Anki’s built-in “Check Media” tool can sometimes show a “missing files” report even when no media is actually missing from your AnkiHub decks. If your cards now have images and you no longer see any broken image icons, the problem is fixed, regardless of the missing files report

Let us know if you continue to experience this problem!
