Confused with anki hub V12 missing images

Previously had V11. Subscribed to V12 and after updating there’s alot of missing images . I checked the media folder collection.media and it shows about 51k items . There’s many media files missing in ankihub . kindly help so that I can retain my old anki especially first aid images and update to the new anki V12 .

So not sure if I should delete the media file and start from scratch from a backup file of my older version or if this can be salvaged for what I’ve downloaded already

First, regarding your existing First Aid images: I see that you’ve already protected the First Aid field, so you should be good to go and don’t need to worry about losing them.

The number of media files you see in your media folder doesn’t just represent the Anki Step Deck. It shows all the media currently in your Anki, and maybe some old media files that haven’t been cleared out yet.

The first time you download the Anki Step Deck, it can take up to a few hours to download all the images depending on your internet connection, since there are several gigabytes of images. Please keep Anki open and wait until it shows that the media download is idle:

If it shows the media sync is idle and you still have missing images (mainly broken image icons in the Text and Extra fields), please follow this tutorial to reset your local changes and wait for everything to sync: How to Reset Local Changes

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please keep in mind a few things regarding missing media:

• Anki’s built-in Tools > Check Media tool can sometimes show a “missing files” report even when no media is actually missing from your AnkiHub decks.
• Broken image icons usually only indicate missing media if they appear in specific fields like Text, Extra, Sketchy, and Pixorize.

I did the reset local changed and import media for all the decks and it fixed slot of the other ones (ECG and high yield images decks) bit not the peeper deck nor the anking V12 deck. I did check media after deleting pepper deck as it does this on my iPad :

The anking images show like this following : extra section is missing images . Lecture notes has images which i guess is from the old deck first aid selection ??? And missed question section is showing some sketchy images which maybe also from old deck?? Not sure . The sketchy section was not protected but still not showing images even after I Did the reset local changes and import media on laptop version

Also I used the following search to find how many of the cards in my V11 and V12 versions has content in the first aid section this is what I got if it was protected shouldn’t it all be the same or is it gong to a different section . Or if unprotected wouldn’t it be completely zero cards? 21k in the old V11 have content in the first aid section . But only 690 cards have content in first aid section in my V12 version

Let’s try to do this one thing at a time and only on your laptop so you can understand what’s happening. On mobile, the missing images may be because you didn’t give Anki enough time to upload everything to AnkiWeb, or you didn’t give AnkiMobile enough time to download everything from AnkiWeb. The process of uploading and downloading to sync between devices can take quite a while because of the upload process involved.

Just for reference, AnkiHub is what we were talking about when downloading Deck on your laptop through the AnkiHub add-on, whereas AnkiWeb is just a service from Anki that lets you sync between devices.

Let’s first focus on the AnKing Step deck because it’s an official AnkiHub deck. I have more options for troubleshooting it. Since you mentioned you deleted the Pepper deck, let’s focus solely on the AnKing Step deck so things don’t get confusing.

1. The “Extra” sections should have images. That’s what we’re going to troubleshoot.
2. Having content in the Lecture Notes, Missed Questions, or First Aid fields is due to your previous deck, and I don’t know exactly what you had there. The current version of the AnKing Step deck doesn’t download anything into those fields.
3. The “Sketchy” section should have images.
4. As I mentioned, if you check media in Anki and it shows a lot of files, that doesn’t necessarily mean you are missing media for the decks you currently have.

After you download V12, it gets merged with your V11 because they share a lot of cards in common. You keep all the cards you already had because AnkiHub doesn’t delete anything, but you download the new cards, and the cards that both versions share just get updated.

Here’s what I recommend we do to resolve your issues:

• I recommend you properly transition from V11 to V12 so you can get rid of all the outdated V11 cards that aren’t present in V12. After that, you will only have the cards pertaining to the current V12 version.
  If you don’t want to do that, that’s completely fine. If you do want to, follow these tutorials:

1. How to move cards from your old V11 deck to a new deck
2. How to Delete old v11 Cards
3. How to remove V11 tags when upgrading from V12

• If you completed the last step, things should be more organized now.
  Now we need to troubleshoot your missing images. I need you to go to your laptop, make sure the media sync shows “idle,” reset your local changes, and wait for everything to finish. Then, please check if you still have broken image icons in the Extra or Sketchy fields.
  Keep in mind that if you didn’t do the previous cleanup step, you may encounter V11-only cards that don’t currently sync with AnkiHub. We don’t have control over those cards, and they might have missing images because they are no longer part of the deck.
