Thousands of missing media files in AnKing Step Deck

I used the Google Drive folder on Reddit to upload media for fields which are not provided in the deck itself but many files appear missing/unused after that. I have unprotected those fields, tried unsubscribing/subscribing and resetting all local changes to the deck but to no effect. I read through the guidelines available on AnkiHub and Reddit to sync media but the problem still persists.
I have no other deck on this account.

An image icon appears under FA/Additional Resources but the image itself does not appear. How can I fix this?

I am a complete beginner and recently subscribed to the v12 Step Deck.

Missing Media Files in AnKing Step Deck

Hi there! I understand you’re having issues with missing media files in your AnKing Step Deck. This is a common issue for new users, so let me help you understand what’s happening and how to fix it.

Why You’re Seeing Missing Media Icons

Based on your screenshots, it looks like you’re having issues with media files in the First Aid/Additional Resources fields. Here’s what’s happening:

  1. Field Protection: By default, AnkiHub protects certain fields in the AnKing Step Deck. You’ve correctly unprotected these fields.

  2. Media vs. HTML References: In Anki, there are two parts to images:

    • The actual image file in your media folder
    • The HTML reference to that image in the card field
  3. Media Source: For the First Aid and Additional Resources fields, AnkiHub does not provide these media files by default due to copyright considerations.

How to Fix This Issue

  1. Check Media Sync Status:

    • Go to the AnkiHub add-on tab and check if the media sync says “Idle” (completed) or “Downloading” (still in progress)
    • If it’s still downloading, wait until it completes
  2. For First Aid/Additional Resources Fields:
When you uploaded media from the Google Drive folder on Reddit, you may have:

    • Imported the image files but not the HTML references, or
    • The file names in your imported media don’t match what the deck is looking for
  3. Try this solution:

    • Make sure you’re importing the media files from the correct Google Drive folder specifically for AnKing Step Deck v12
    • After importing media:
      • Go to Browse
      • Click on the AnkiHub add-on tab
      • Select “Reset local changes”
      • Choose the AnKing deck
  4. Check Media After Import:

    • Go to Tools > Check Media to see if there are still missing files
    • If there are, note the filenames so you can verify they’re in the Google Drive folder

Important Note

The AnKing team notes that “Images found in the First Aid and Additional Resources fields of past decks may or may not be covered by third-party copyrights.” This is why they aren’t included by default in the AnkiHub version.

Would you like me to provide more specific instructions on how to import the media files correctly from the Google Drive folder?

Hello,

Because First Aid is copyrighted, AnkiHub cannot provide that media nor sync it. More information can be found here: AnKing Step Deck Wiki

So it is not possible to get First Aid media (or other media not already provided in the deck) by importing from a drive/folder?

Another alternative I came across is downloading the v11 deck and syncing with AnkiHub so it updates to v12 while keeping the media, will that work?
