Summary

!AK_UpdateTags

  • Algorithm

    • Cards that contain an algorithm/flowchart in the extra section
  • AnKing_Image

    • Cards that contain AnKing created images/illustrations, sorted by subjects and illustrators
  • Skin_of_Color

    • An update introduced in an earlier version which added new images for presentations of various diseases on skin of color. This project is ongoing and needs volunteers to expedite progress!
  • Step2potentialdupes

    • Potential duplicate Step 2 cards, can be ignored since the maintainer team are actively dealing with duplicates
  • Table

    • Cards that contain a table in the extra section, not fully up to date

#AK_Original_Decks

  • The Zanki_Pharmacology deck originally had subdecks but we removed them early on after adding tags and it was not feasible to get them back at this point. Rest assured the tagging is now far superior than the original subdecks were.
  • The Lolnotacop subdecks is accurate. That deck was mostly organized by tags originally and never had extensive subdecks
  • The Zanki_Step_2 , Cheesy_Dorian_(M3) and MedicalArk decks originally had subdecks but we removed them early on intentionally because there was a significant amount of duplicates or notes that belonged to multiple subdecks. Cheesy Dorian duplicated notes and put them in subdecks. We removed the duplicates and saved one card and kept it tagged by all relevant shelf exams. After doing this, subdecks would have been inappropriate to use.
  • Used to be a separate parent tag, but has been moved into #AK_Other to improve tag tree structure (2025)

%AnKingNoteTypes

  • A tag for the template notetype cards

Card_Features

  • One_by_one
    • Cards that have the 1by1 feature enabled
  • Algorithm
    • Algorithm cards that contain the algorithm in extra, with image occlusions over the answers
  • Clinical_Sign
    • GIFs for various clinical signs can be found in this tag, not up to date
  • Histology
    • Cards that have a histological image in the extra section, not up to date
  • Mnemonic
    • Mnemonic cards
  • Needs_Histology_Image
    • A tag for maintainers and the community to detect which cards need histology images that don’t have one already, can be ignored
  • Rapid_Diagnosis
    • The rapid diagnosis type of cards, mainly for Step 2
  • Shuffle
    • Cards that have the shuffle feature, which randomizes the order of the cloze so you don’t answer based on how you remember the card looks like

New_Cards

  • New cards that were added when AnkiHub was introduced, tagged by year that they were introduced. New cards almost always have a corresponding UWorld question that had a new concept being tested that was not previously tested in the AnKing step deck.

Tag Explanations

!DELETE(Duplicate) - These cards can be deleted! (Yes, seriously). They have been carefully merged (tags, images, extra field content) with a respective card that has been kept in the deck. As of V12 onwards, most duplicates can be viewed in AnkiHub suggestion history to see which card it was merged to. If you have been reviewing these cards already, you can search “tag:’!DELETE(Duplicate)’ is:new” to find only cards that are new and delete those. If you recently installed the Step deck, you may not see this tag which means those cards have already been deleted for you so you do not have to worry about them!

!FLAG_THESE_CARDS - these are cards that you may not want to review a lot or review at all for the reasons on the subtags

  • PharmExtras_(topic_covered_by_micro) - These are cards that were made from Sketchy pharm, but the cards from Sketchy micro already covered this pharm principle. You can choose if you want to just do the Sketchy micro one or if you feel the duplicate coverage is helpful
  • Potential_duplicates :construction: - Cards flagged by our team that may potentially have a duplicate. Not all of these are duplicates and should be kept until we can properly go through them all.
  • SketchyPathAdds - These are cards that were added to the deck by JB who did all the Sketchy Path tagging. Some of these are decent, but the majority are likely not needed unless you’re doing Sketchy Path
  • Temporary - these are cards that are helpful at first when building foundations, but later on can likely be suspended as they’re very simple concepts

#AMBOSS- Cards tagged by AMBOSS questions IDs

#B&B :white_check_mark: - Cards tagged by Boards and Beyond videos

#DirtyMedicine :construction: - Cards tagged based on DirtyMedicine YouTube videos. Some videos cover Step 1 AND Step 2 material, therefore, if this is the case, the Step 1 cards have a Step 1 tag, while the cards relevant for Step 2 can be found in the Step 2 tag tree.

#FirstAid :white_check_mark: - Based on First Aid 2025. This is probably the most comprehensive tag for the Step 1 deck and covers almost every single card.

#Low/HighYield - :white_check_mark:- A project initiated with the goal of identifying whether cards are High Yield for the purposes of Step 1 study. This was initiated after the P/F exam scoring transition to help make studying easier for users. The project has been completed in 2025

#Pathoma :white_check_mark: - The deck was originally made by Zanki using Pathoma. These are mostly his tags with some additions by BlueGalaxies03_Neoplasia & 03_Neoplasia_Alt_Tagging - The neoplasia section wasn’t initially done by Zanki and both BlueGalaxies and Lolnotacop filled in the gaps.

We combined the best of the two versions into 03_Neoplasia but left the Alt_Tagging version if you wanted to use one or the other. Most of the lolnotacop versions of the Alt_Tagging have been removed from the deck as duplicates.

#Physeo :white_check_mark::money_mouth_face: - Cards in the deck are tagged by this resource^physeo_image_update - This tag keeps track of images added to cards in the Physeo field for our volunteers

#Pixorize :construction::money_mouth_face: - Cards in the deck are tagged by this resource^Missing_image - cards that are tagged for Pixorize but do not yet have an image yet, helps our volunteers keep track^pixorize_image_update - these tags are being removed slowly as @Anonymous and his volunteers retag the entire deck to be up to date with Pixorize. Does the UWorld deck/tags cover all the questions in the bank?

Hello,

Yes pretty much for Step 1 and 2 (98%ish), almost all questions are tagged except some ethics/communication questions which don’t have any corresponding cards in the deck.

Thank you. You guys are THE best!

I have two delete tags, one under the “flag these cards” tag as well. Is it safe to delete both? Thanks!

You can delete “!DELETE”, you can keep the potential duplicates because we are gradually working on removing them

You don’t have to really worry about these tags, we have deleted a ton and they are all in “AnkiHub_Deleted”

I synced with anking12, but I have less cards than what I had with asking version 11. Do I need to redownload 11 and sync with 12 to have all the cards? Im missing tags with FA,

Hello,

Many duplicate and very low yield cards were removed from v12 which is why you would have less cards.

If you are missing FA tags, try this:

Please try resetting your local changes. To do this:

Go to browse in your Anki → at the top click on the ankihub addon tab → press reset all local changes

This will restore everything to what AnkiHub has unless you have specifically protected those fields

I want to know more about the “high-yield” tags that are used in Anking. I initially assumed they were based solely on the content of UWorld and NBMEs. However, I’ve noticed that even within those cards, there’s a further sub-division of yield, with some cards categorized as “relatively high yield,” “low yield,” or "lower yield in UW and NBMEs.

Could you please clarify how the “high-yield” tags are determined?

Thanks

High yield tags are determined by users who have gone through the material and asked the question “How much do I need this card to answer practice questions?”

Based on that question, they were segregated into High Yield and Low Yield (see below the 5 different levels)

The project is only 85% complete so it’s not fully done yet

If we replace this question with another"to answer the real questions" ’ will this tag still has the same value , in your opinion?

It depends on what you mean by “the real questions”. Do you mean the questions on the actual Step 1?

If so, then it’s a very subjective topic. Yes the tag will most likely cover the questions you will get in the actual exam (since this is what UWorld covers) but will there be questions on the real thing that this tag does not cover? Yes, since Step 1 can test on really niche small low yield things

In my own personal opinion, the more cards you do, the more you cover the “uncertainty” factor of what can be tested on Step 1.

Someone who does 50% of the cards for Step 1 can pass but the certainty of that is not the same as someone who has covered and done 90% of the cards in the Step 1 deck.

So the person who does 90% has a much higher certainty of passing Step 1 (with that being said, people pass doing just the high yield tag but it depends on other factors like your test taking skills, how you do on qbanks, how many questions you do, your past background knowledge on the topics, etc.)

TLDR: yes, it will help, but it’s not a “guarantee” that you will be able to answer everything on the real exam just with these tags

Hello,
I have a copy of Anking v12 that contains cards for Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3. Regarding the “high yield tag” in this version, is it classified based on the Step 1 exam specifically, or is it applicable to all the Step exams? For example, I marked the high yield cards with a red flag and found that some of them are also listed under the Step 2 and Step 3 tags. Does this mean that the high yield card is only for Step 2 and Step 3, or is this classification specific to Step 1?
Thank you.

(My purpose is dont studying things that only found in step2 or 3 in my studying for step1 exam)

The High yield tag is mainly for the Step 1 exam, but doesn’t mean they can’t be important for Step 2.

For example if they have the shelf tag or a lot of Step 2 tags, it is important for Step 2
