Why arent my tags updated/how to update?

So I noticed the number of tagged cards is not equal to the total number of cards I have in a subset, for example, (see screenshots) UW books behavioral tags has 1493 tags, however, the behavioral deck has 2442 cards. This poses issues for me because sometimes I think I have completed the cards for a UW problem set, then I do the problems and realize I missed questions just because I had not seen the appropriate card.

How can I update it so all of my cards are appropriately tagged?
Newerish to Anki so bear with me.
I also have AnkiHub Protect All on for a lot of cards, would removing that tag allow the AnkiHub tags to be updated?

Thanks!!!

Hello

This is normal

There are a few reasons for this:

  • The UWorld textbooks came out less than a year ago. The AnKing MCAT deck, being older than that, was written and largely based on the resources that existed when it came out (Kaplan, Khan Academy, etc.). On average, any given deck will generally hew most closely to the resources based on which it was written. Thus, while the current deck is tagged by the UWorld textbooks it was not written alongside that resource, and therefore there may not be perfect overlap.
  • It’s probably also worth pointing out that tagging, as with any deck, is primarily done as a community effort and will never be 100% perfect. In an ideal world UWorld would offer to do it themselves but that’s unlikely in my lifetime, and so tagging is largely done by fellow students and volunteers. As a result of this, it’s largely a process that is never quite done, and will always have some small discrepancies (additionally, the UWorld textbook tagging was just completed less than a week ago, FWIW).
  • Because the deck is based on, and covers, multiple resources it will almost always be the case that there is more content in the deck than you’re likely to find in any single resource. An easy example of this would be the Behavioral Science UWorld textbook: it’s not particularly exhaustive and there are lots of terms, and details, that it doesn’t cover. Thus, you will naturally find more cards in the Behavioral subdeck than in the Behavioral sciences UWorld tag. This is normal
  • The same would be true of the UWorld question bank. Lots of UWorld questions simply can’t be tagged, either because they’re passage-based, or image-based, or lots of other reasons. And any question bank will never be completely exhaustive. The number of cards tagged by UWorld QID will for sure be less than the total number of cards in the deck. This is true for any QBank, really.

From what you’ve shared, I don’t immediately see anything that indicates that your cards are not appropriately tagged, tbh.

You can always push a check of your local collection against the server copy, though the numbers you’ve shared above don’t seem to offer any indication that you’re missing anything: Resetting Local Changes

This will protect all of your note fields, which will preserve any edits you make though also prevent AnkiHub from updating your note fields. However, this does not affect tags one way or the other.
