Hi, just wondering how many âdecksâ anking has? For some reason mine says 118 but I only subscribed to it from here?
Hello,
The AnKing step deck from AnkiHub should have one deck, but if you installed other decks from AnkiHub, that setting will increase.
It might also be worth pointing out that the image you shared doesnât necessarily show 118 AnkiHub decks, but rather that you have 118 decks in your collection that are currently using this preset.
For example, letâs say I only have one AnkiHub deck in my collection and it uses the AnkiHub preset. Okay, it would say âAnkiHub (used by 1 deck).â Simple enough
But, for whatever reason, maybe Iâm studying Italian and I have my own self-made deck and I decide to use that same preset for my deck of Italian vocab. So I change that deck to use the AnkiHub presets. Now it would say âAnkiHub (used by 2 decks).â I still only have 1 AnkiHub deck, but I now have more than one deck using that specific preset.
Thus, itâs not necessarily the case that you have 118 AnkiHub decks. The image you shared tells us that 118 decks are using that preset, but weâd have to know more about whatâs in your collection, how many subdecks you have, older decks, etc. Hard to say without more info.
If youâre referencing the AnKing Step deck, it has only one deck. But, because of the way Anki handles importing, it may have been the case that you had a lot of decks/subdecks prior and Anki will sometimes grandfather that organizational structure in when you import a deck. So this may be an artefact of your existing organization rather than an indication of how many AnkiHub decks there are
Let me know if you have any questions; happy to help however we can.
Oh! This makes sense. I thought I cleared all the old decks but perhaps not!
for Anking Step Deck specifically to make sure I didnt mess things up:
- every time I sync does it fix the ankihub tags I may have messed up/move things/cards around as they are updated?
- my âtag:#AK_Step1_v12â shows 31733 cards is this correct?
Generally speaking youâll receive updates each time you sync. If youâve fiddled with stuff, though, you can force a check against the server copy by following this tutorial: Resetting Local Changes
This will ensure that there arenât any discrepancies between what you have and what you should have.
That is correct.
Thank you so much! I have like an invalid fear of messing up the step deck lol. I guess if I have the right tags I shouldnât need to do the resetting thing then!
Is it even possible to accidentally delete cards and not have them come back with an ankihub sync?
All good, I totally get it. Iâm the same way, in that I get very protective over my collection.
If you delete cards and then sync, itâs not guaranteed that they would come back immediately. Because of the way AnkiHub works, it doesnât push an update to every single card and every single field each time you hit sync. It really only âpushesâ updates if something has changed on the server side.
So in theory, if a card hasnât seen any updates for a while, it might take a bit for it to come back. Itâs hard to predict how long that would be for any given card; could be 4 seconds or could be weeks. But, you can always institute that force-check by using the tutorial above.
That force check wouldnât move cards I moved right or change ones I have unsuspended? For ex, I make sundecks within ankihub (I hope thatâs what itâs called) for each module so âRenalâ has itâs own little deck under ankihub. Would it mess with that?
Correct, yeah. AnkiHub doesnât really âcareâ where you have cards located. It will just check that they exist, and that they have all the stuff they should have. It wonât âseeâ, or care, which deck or subdeck you happen to have them in.
Basically the force check will only do a head count, make sure all cards that should be present are present, and then an inventory check to make sure that all the fields have whatever they should have.
It wonât touch card location, deck organization, settings, any of that stuff
