Accidentally deleted some subdecks

How can I restore some of my subdecks I accidentally deleted? I tried reseting all local changes as suggested in one of the post and that did not bring back the subdeck. Reseting all local changes caused one of the other subdecks to copy itself so now I have two same subdecks for a different category.

I’ll help you with your issue of accidentally deleting subdecks. Let me search for relevant information on the forum.

Hi Matskom15,

I understand you’re facing an issue with accidentally deleted subdecks. Let me help you with this situation.

Recovering Deleted Subdecks

Unfortunately, the “Reset all local changes” method you tried is indeed the primary way to recover deleted content in AnkiHub. However, it seems this didn’t work as expected in your case, and even caused duplication of another subdeck.

The typical recovery process should be:

  1. Go to Browse in Anki
  2. Click on AnkiHub in the top menu
  3. Select Reset all local changes
  4. Choose the specific deck you want to reset
  5. Click OK

Possible Next Steps

Since you’re encountering issues with this method, here are some alternatives:

  1. Restore from a backup: If you have a recent Anki backup (created before you deleted the subdecks), you could restore from that.

  2. Re-download the deck: If this is the AnKing Step deck (based on your tags), you might need to re-download the deck from AnkiHub and properly set up your subdecks again.

  3. Contact AnkiHub support directly: For more specific assistance with your particular situation, especially since you’re experiencing unexpected behavior with duplicating subdecks.

For the duplicated subdeck issue, you might need to manually delete the duplicate and then attempt another recovery method.

Have you created any backups of your collection recently that you could restore from?

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

It depends on which deck you’re referencing, really, though unless the deck comes with subdecks by default resetting local changes won’t do much (since resetting to a subdeck-less default would not reinstate subdecks)

If you accidentally deleted some subdecks, your best bet may be to restore from a local backup: How to Restore From Backup

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.

It is the Anking Step Deck, specifically the Bootcamp–>Pulmonology–>Air Physiology–> 01 Pulmonology System Function, Anatomy, and Histology (missing). I went into my local backups and it looks like that subdeck is still missing, even when I went back all the way to when I subscribed.

I’m afraid there isn’t really another way to reinstitute subdecks, other than in theory setting from a local backup, as they are unique to your local collection.

If the backup didn’t recapture it, I’m not aware of any other solutions I’m sorry to say, other than perhaps rebuilding it (which should only take a few seconds)

Ok, thank you. How would I be able to rebuild it?

At the bottom of your main Anki screen, there is a button that says ‘create deck’:

You can use this button to create a deck, which you can name whatever you would like and into which you can move any cards you like.

Is there a way I can access the Anking deck online where I can use the information from those specific cards?

I’m not sure how you mean?

The deck is intended to be used with Anki, which has both online and offline capacities. By its nature, AnkiHub functions online, more or less.

In theory, you could go to the deck page on AnkiHub.net and see some of the cards from that page. I’m not sure how useful it would be, but it should be feasible

Ok, thank you.
