Basically, I edit the templates of the cards from the anking deck because the way that it is set up is kind of ridiculous, but every time I sync it resets it. I know this is what syncing does, but if you could disallow the sync of the template while still updating the content of the card, that would be great.

I agree it makes sense to provide an easier way to protect templates from all edits.
