Anki Stuck syncing

MY Anki is stuck syncing continuously. It just says 0 modified up or down with 0 removed up or down and will not sync at all. I have updated Ankhub add-on. I have tried to boot without add ons in safety mode and it will not sync still. Any ideas for a fix?

A few things you can try, in order:

1. Check AnkiWeb directly

This helps confirm if it’s an Anki desktop issue or an account/server issue.

  1. Go to https://ankiweb.net and log in with the same account as on your computer.
  2. Try adding a small test note on AnkiWeb.
  3. Then on your computer, click Sync again.
  • If AnkiWeb works fine but desktop is still “Syncing…” with 0 modified up/down, it’s likely a local issue (profile, network, or version).

2. Verify you’re on the latest Anki version

AnkiHub requires relatively recent Anki versions, and old ones can behave oddly with sync.

  • In Anki, go to Help → About and check your version.
  • Compare with the latest version on https://apps.ankiweb.net and update if needed.
  • After updating, restart your computer and try syncing again.

3. Test with a brand‑new profile

This checks whether your main profile is corrupted.

  1. In Anki, go to File → Switch Profile.
  2. Click Add to create a new empty profile.
  3. In that new profile, add a single basic card.
  4. Set up sync for that profile (AnkiWeb account) and click Sync.
  • If the new profile syncs normally, the problem is likely with your main profile’s database.
  • If the new profile is also stuck, it’s more likely a network/security or global Anki issue.

4. Check for network / security app interference

Sometimes antivirus, VPN, corporate networks, or firewalls block Anki’s sync requests.

  • Temporarily disable any VPN, or switch to a different network (e.g., mobile hotspot).
  • Temporarily pause any third‑party firewall / antivirus web protection and try syncing again.
  • Make sure your system date/time are correct.

5. Run “Check Database” on your main profile

If your new profile syncs fine but your main one doesn’t:

  1. Go back to your original profile.
  2. Go to Tools → Check Database.
  3. Let it run and then restart Anki.
  4. Try syncing again.

6. Clarify AnkiHub vs Anki sync

Just to confirm:

  • The blue sync button in Anki talks to AnkiWeb, not AnkiHub.
  • AnkiHub uses its own “Update from AnkiHub” / “Upload to AnkiHub” buttons (in the browser or menu), after your AnkiWeb sync works.

So we first need to get AnkiWeb sync working; then we can deal with any AnkiHub-specific issues.

If it’s still stuck

Could you reply with:

  1. Your Anki version (Help → About).
  2. Your operating system (Windows/macOS/Linux + version).
  3. Whether a new empty profile can sync successfully.
  4. A screenshot of the sync window that shows the 0 modified up/down message (with any personal info blurred).

With that info, we can narrow down whether this is:

  • An account/server problem,
  • A local profile/database problem,
  • Or a network/security interference issue, and then decide on next steps (e.g., exporting, deleting the profile locally, and re-downloading from AnkiWeb, if safe).

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

I believe that the Anki servers are currently experiencing some downtime. This is unrelated to AnkiHub at the moment

You can likely find a bit more information, and keep abreast of updates as they come out, over on the official Anki forums: https://forums.ankiweb.net/

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
