Anki Stuck in "Processing"

Hi!

My Anki has been stuck in the “processing” page of its start-up/sync process. I’ve tried opening Anki while holding the shift key to go and disable add-on’s one-by-one, which seems to point to AnkiHub as the issue (disabling AnkiHub allows me to use Anki but not the AnkiHub features I need, and disabling every other add-on keeps me stuck on “processing” after restarting the app).

Also tried deleting/reinstalling Anki app and problem persists. Currently using Anki 25.07.5 for macOS 12+ and AnkiHub shows no new updates. All my add-on’s are:

Hi there! I understand your frustration with Anki getting stuck in the “processing” stage when AnkiHub is enabled. This is a known issue that can happen with certain add-on conflicts. Let me help you troubleshoot this problem.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. You’ve already identified that AnkiHub is the culprit by testing with the shift key method, which is excellent detective work.

  2. Since you need AnkiHub for your workflow, here are some steps to try:

    • Update AnkiHub: Although you mentioned it shows no updates, sometimes manually reinstalling the latest version can help. Go to AnkiWeb and download the add-on again.

    • Potential Add-on Conflicts: Based on your list, there might be conflicts between AnkiHub and one of your other add-ons. Try temporarily disabling “Special Fields” as it’s known to sometimes conflict with AnkiHub.

    • Reset AnkiHub Configuration:

      1. Close Anki completely
      2. Navigate to your Anki add-ons folder (usually found in Documents/Anki/addons21)
      3. Find the AnkiHub folder (1322529746)
      4. Rename or delete the “meta.json” file in that folder
      5. Restart Anki
    • Check Media Sync: Sometimes the “processing” message appears when AnkiHub is trying to sync media files. If you can briefly access AnkiHub, check if media sync shows “downloading” rather than “idle”.

  3. Clean Profile Test: If the above doesn’t work, try creating a new Anki profile with only AnkiHub installed to see if it works properly there. This can help determine if it’s a profile-specific issue.

If Problems Persist

If you’re still experiencing issues after trying these steps, I recommend:

  1. Using the AnkiHub add-on’s “Help > Upload logs and data” feature to share your logs with the AnkiHub team

  2. Posting in the Support section of the AnkiHub Community forum with details about your system (macOS version, exact Anki version, etc.)

The AnkiHub team is very responsive and can provide specific help for your situation.

Would you like me to explain any of these troubleshooting steps in more detail?

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

Just to make sure: are you seeing any error messages, or bug reports, or anything that you might be able to share here just to give us some context?

Additionally, if you’re able (and you may not be able to, from the sound of it), can you go to your top menu bar: AnkiHub - Help - Upload Logs, and let us know the file name there?

Let’s start from there and hopefully we can inch toward getting you squared away

@abdo.nh

Does it work if you disable this option from Tools > Preferences?

Thank you all so much for your help! Things seem spontaneously resolved today. Hadn’t gotten a chance to read/try out these suggestions until now, so all I can think is 2 things:

  1. Upon starting up Anki today, I got a message that my Ankimon add-on was out of date / potentially incompatible, and to disable it if it showed no new updates. It didn’t, so I disabled it, and things are working (but, they were also working before I disabled it, so…)
  2. I typed this initial message in an international airport yesterday, so could’ve been some weird connectivity thing with the airport’s wifi. Don’t know if that’s likely given that I ran a speed test showing ~110mbps download/80 mbps upload, and was able to fully reinstall my large Anki files in the hour of free time I had at my gate, but not sure.

Doesn’t matter either way now I guess; sorry for the potential false alarm, but I really do appreciate you two who took the time to help out!!
