Anking sync issues

I have tried to sync the cards but the app will not sync no matter what I do, I have uploaded some screenshots to show what I am seeing. When I click sync in the app, in the tool bar and in the manage decks nothing happens.

Thanks for the screenshots, they’re really helpful.

From what I can see, AnkiHub is showing the AnKing Step Deck with the message:

“This deck is not installed yet!
:repeat_button: Sync to install”

…but clicking Sync in Anki / AnkiHub doesn’t do anything. That usually means something is blocking the AnkiHub add‑on from running, rather than a problem with the deck itself.

Please try these steps in order:

1. Confirm the AnkiHub add‑on is installed and enabled

  1. In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons.
  2. Look for AnkiHub in the list.
    • If it’s missing: reinstall it from our docs:
      community.ankihub.net/docs → AnkiHub Add-on Installation.
    • If it’s there but disabled, select it and click Toggle Enabled, then restart Anki.

After restarting, try AnkiHub → Deck Management → Sync to install again.

2. Make sure you’re logged into AnkiHub in the add‑on

  1. In Anki, click AnkiHub → Preferences.
  2. Check that you are logged in with the same email you used on the AnkiHub website.
  3. If it looks logged out or stuck, click Log out, then log back in.
  4. Close the window and try syncing again.

3. Check for error messages in the Anki “Console”

Sometimes the sync quietly fails because of an error:

  1. Go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → View Files, then click Open Console (or Check for errors if available).
  2. Try clicking Sync again.
  3. If any red error text appears, please screenshot it and post it here.

That will give us a clear idea of what’s going wrong.

4. Temporarily disable other add-ons

Occasionally another add-on blocks AnkiHub:

  1. Go to Tools → Add-ons → Toggle Enabled on all other add-ons except AnkiHub.
  2. Restart Anki and try Sync again from AnkiHub Deck Management.
  3. If it works, re‑enable your other add-ons one by one until it breaks again, to find the culprit.

5. Confirm Anki version

AnkiHub requires a reasonably recent Anki version.

  1. In Anki, click Help → About and note the exact version (e.g., 24.04).
  2. If you’re on an older version (e.g., 2.1.49 or below), please update from apps.ankiweb.net, restart, then retry syncing.

If you can, please reply with:

  • A screenshot of Tools → Add-ons showing AnkiHub,
  • Your Anki version,
  • Whether any error appears in the console when you click Sync.

With that info we can give you more targeted next steps.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

If you can, within Anki go to your top menu bar. From there, click Anki - About Anki and check your version number.

You’ll want to make sure that you’re on 25.09 (or higher). If it’s any other version, you’ll want to upgrade since older versions often run into little issues with add-ons.

You can always download the latest version of Anki at the official Anki website: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

From there, you might also try unsubscribing and resubscribing to the deck

If that doesn’t do the trick, you can try pushing a corroboration check against the server copy by following this tutorial: How to Reset Local Changes to an Optional Tag Group

And lastly, just on a lark, you might also give shit a shot:

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.

I tried all of the suggestions and this is what I’m seeing, lmk what to do next, thx for the help

It looks like you may have tried to reset an optional tag, rather than reset a deck

It gives me the same message

That does appear to be a different message than the first one that you sent over, though still useful thank you.

I do see that you are subscribed to multiple decks; just so I’m on the same which deck is it that you attempted to reset?

And just so we don’t duplicate any efforts and I know what all you’ve tried already of the above; what, if anything, happened when you unsubscribed and resubscribed to the deck? Ideally you’ll want to unsubscribe, hit sync, then resubscribe, and hit sync again (just to give the servers a chance to blink)

I guess I tried to reset the AnkiHub one since there are no other ones that I have that I can see, and I did the unsubscribe and resubscribe and nothing happened still, thx for the fast reply

Let me know if there is anything else that I can do

It may be helpful to know which deck, as it does appear that you are subscribed to multiple AnkiHub decks

From what I gather, there was also an AnkiHub add-on update pushed yesterday so it may be helpful to ensure that you’re on the most updated version of that add-on. From your top menu bar: Tools - Add-ons - check for updates, install any available updates and then you’ll want to restart Anki

Once that’s done, you might try resetting local changes again just so that we know we’re on the right track.

If that still doesn’t work, we may have to take a step further and in that instance if you can share your logs: top menu bar, AnkiHub - Help - Upload logs, and paste the filename here and I’ll have a developer take a look at it for you if need be :mending_heart:

Hey so I don’t know how to reset a specific deck as I don’t have any showing up like I showed in the screenshot that I uploaded of the browse tab. I did the update and reset the local changes again like the tutorial said, still nothing. Here is the log file name ankihub_addon_logs_alemob02_1785899610.log

Gotcha, I appreciate you trying those things

I’m sorry to say that I’m not quite sure what is going on; it appears to be a bug or error that I haven’t seen before. I’ve gone ahead and tagged one of our developers who should be able to cast a more expert eye at this for you, and hopefully we can get you squared away sooner than later :mending_heart:

Thank you very much

A post was split to a new topic: Database malformed

When you click on this button in deck management, what happens?

Also, do you ever see a pop-up that says “Upload to Ankiweb” or “Download from Ankiweb”?

Another thing you can try is clicking unsubscribe to all those decks in the deck management page, then resubscribe on the AnkiHub website then click Sync in Anki and see if that changes things

@alemob02 Can you also log in to AnkiWeb in https://ankiweb.net/ and confirm if you see any messages there (e.g. pending email confirmation)?

Thank you so much for the suggestionI verified my anki email and this popped up, what do I do?

Hello! You can just click “Yes”
