Here are a few things to try step‑by‑step to narrow this down:

  1. Confirm basic requirements

    • Make sure you are on the latest stable Anki (from apps.ankiweb.net, not a distro version).
    • Make sure the AnkiHub add‑on is the latest version (Tools → Add‑ons → AnkiHub → Check for updates).
    • Confirm you are fully logged in to the add‑on (AnkiHub menu → Log out, then log in again).
  2. Test whether it’s an add‑on conflict

    • Restart Anki while holding Shift to temporarily disable all add‑ons.
    • Then enable only AnkiHub:
      • Tools → Add‑ons → select AnkiHub → Toggle enabled.
    • Restart Anki and try AnkiHub → Sync with AnkiHub again.
    • If it works now, another add‑on is interfering; you can enable them back one‑by‑one to find the culprit.
  3. Check if it’s a connection/region issue (you mentioned Pakistan)

    • Try a different network (e.g., mobile hotspot vs home Wi‑Fi).
    • Temporarily disable any VPN, firewall, or antivirus that might be blocking Anki’s connection.
    • In Anki, go to Tools → Preferences → Network and make sure no proxy is misconfigured.
  4. Check your AnkiHub account & subscription

    • Go to https://app.ankihub.net in your browser:
      • Confirm you’re logged in with the same email as in the add‑on.
      • Confirm your membership is active and that you’re subscribed to the AnKing deck there.
    • If the web app loads but the add‑on still freezes on “downloading deck from AnkiHub,” that suggests the issue is local to your Anki setup or connection, not your account.
  5. Try a “clean” test profile

    • In Anki: Profiles → Add → create a new test profile.
    • Install only the AnkiHub add‑on in that profile and log in.
    • Try Sync with AnkiHub again from this clean profile.
    • If it works there, something in your main profile (other add‑ons, old data, etc.) is causing the freeze.

Could you reply with the following so we can go deeper if needed?

  • Your Anki version (Help → About Anki).
  • Your AnkiHub add‑on version (Tools → Add‑ons → AnkiHub → View files → open meta.json, or just screenshot the add‑on list).
  • Whether step 2 (Shift‑start) or the clean profile changed anything.
  • Roughly how long you’ve waited at the “downloading deck from AnkiHub” step (e.g., >10 minutes vs instantly frozen).

Hello,

Please ensure you are using the latest version of Anki. You can download it here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/. After downloading, simply run the installer to update the application.

Also, please update your AnkiHub add-on:

  1. On your Anki main screen, go to Tools > Add-ons > Check for Updates.
  2. After the update is complete, please restart Anki.

If you continue to experience this issue, please let us know and upload your logs:

  1. In the Anki app, navigate to the menu: AnkiHub > Help > Upload Logs.
  2. A filename will be shown in a confirmation pop-up. Please copy and paste that filename here for us.

Thanks for the extra details and for trying the basic steps already.

Since the progress bar freezes immediately on “downloading deck from AnkiHub”, the next best step is to get more technical info from your setup so the team can see what’s going wrong.

Please do the following in order:

1. Double‑check versions (just to confirm)

Even if you already updated, please quickly verify:

  1. Anki version

  2. AnkiHub add‑on version

    • Tools → Add-ons → Check for Updates
    • Let it update if anything is found, then restart Anki.

If you’ve done this and it still freezes, move on to logs.

2. Upload AnkiHub logs

  1. Open Anki.
  2. Go to AnkiHub → Help → Upload Logs.
  3. Wait for the confirmation popup.
  4. Copy the log filename it shows (something like ankihub-logs-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.zip).

Paste that exact filename in your next reply here.

3. Share a bit more info (to help interpret the logs)

In your reply, please also include:

  • Your Anki version (e.g. 24.06.3).
  • Your macOS version.
  • Approximately how long you’ve left it on “downloading deck from AnkiHub” (e.g. 10+ minutes vs instantly frozen).
  • Whether you’ve tried a different network (e.g. mobile hotspot instead of home Wi‑Fi).

Once you post the log filename + these details, the team will be able to see whether it’s a connection issue (possibly region‑related), a timeout, or something specific to your installation and advise you on the exact fix.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

I can’t say I’ve heard of or seen this issue before, I’m sorry to say. Can you check a couple of things for me, just to make sure:

If you can, within Anki go to your top menu bar. From there, click Anki - About Anki and check your version number.

You’ll want to make sure that you’re on 25.02 (or higher). If it’s any other version, you’ll want to upgrade since older versions often run into little issues with add-ons.

You can always download the latest version of Anki at the official Anki website: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

From there, make sure that all of your add-ons are up to date. Tools - Add-ons - Check for Updates. Once that’s done, restart Anki

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.
