AnKing deck not downloading despite subscription + clean profile (URGENT)

I am subscribed to AnKing Step Deck.

Issue:

  • AnkiHub sync does nothing
  • Deck appears but has 0 cards
  • Tried:
  • Deleting deck
  • Unsubscribing/resubscribing
  • New profile
  • No AnkiWeb sync
  • Reinstalling add-on
  • Manual reset

Result:

  • Only media sync runs
  • No notes/cards ever download

This persists across clean profiles.

Thanks for all the detail, that really helps narrow this down.

Based on what you described (deck shows up, 0 notes, only media sync runs, persists across clean profiles), this is almost always a subscription / access or deck-selection issue on AnkiHub’s side rather than something in your Anki profile.

Please run through these checks in order:

1. Confirm you’re subscribed to the correct deck

  1. Go to AnkiHub → Web → Open AnkiHub (or open AnkiHub in your browser).
  2. In the top-right, click your profile → Subscriptions.
  3. Make sure you see something like:
    • AnKing Step Deck (or the exact deck you’re trying to download) with status Active.
  4. Click into the deck page:
    • Confirm you haven’t been removed or your access hasn’t expired.
    • If it doesn’t appear here, your subscription may not be applied to your current AnkiHub account (sometimes people accidentally have 2 accounts with different emails).

If the deck doesn’t show as active, that would explain the 0-card behavior.

2. Verify the deck is actually enabled for syncing in Anki

In Anki on your computer:

  1. Go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config (or AnkiHub menu → Settings).
  2. Make sure:
    • “Enable AnkiHub for this profile” is checked.
  3. Back in the main Anki window:
    • Select the empty “AnKing Step Deck” deck.
    • Go to AnkiHub → Deck Configuration and confirm the deck is linked to the correct AnkiHub deck (it should show the deck name and not “Not linked to AnkiHub”).

If it’s not linked, choose Link deck to AnkiHub and pick the Step deck you’re subscribed to, then AnkiHub → Sync again.

3. Check AnkiHub sync logs for hidden errors

  1. In Anki, run AnkiHub → Sync.
  2. After it finishes (even if “nothing” happens), open:
    • AnkiHub → View Logs (or Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → View Log, depending on your version).
  3. Look for:
    • Any lines mentioning permission, subscription, or 403/401 errors.
    • Copy the last ~20–30 lines (removing your email/username) into a reply on your topic.

Those logs will tell the team if the server is blocking note download (e.g., due to missing access).

4. Try forcing a fresh download in a brand‑new profile

You’ve already tried this, but please confirm you did it in this exact order:

  1. File → Switch Profile → Add → create fresh test profile.
  2. Do not enable AnkiWeb sync.
  3. Install only the AnkiHub add‑on.
  4. Restart Anki.
  5. Log into AnkiHub in the add‑on (same account that has the Step Deck subscription).
  6. From the AnkiHub menu, choose Download / Add a Shared Deck → pick AnKing Step Deck.
  7. Run AnkiHub → Sync and wait a few minutes.

If after this there are still 0 cards, we can be pretty sure the issue is on the AnkiHub/permissions side, not your local setup.

5. What to include in your follow‑up reply

To help AnkiHub staff fix this quickly on your topic, please reply there with:

  1. Screenshot of your AnkiHub “Subscriptions” page showing the Step Deck as active (you can blur your email/name).
  2. A screenshot of the AnkiHub deck page for the Step Deck (just the top area that shows you as a subscriber/member).
  3. The AnkiHub log excerpt (last 20–30 lines after a sync attempt, with personal info removed).
  4. Confirm:
    • Anki version (e.g., 23.12, 24.04, etc.).
    • AnkiHub add-on version (from Add-ons → AnkiHub).
    • OS (Windows/Mac/Linux).

Given everything you’ve already tried, if your subscription is definitely active and the logs show you’re authenticated, this likely needs backend attention from the AnkiHub team (e.g., subscription not correctly linked to the deck). With the info above in your topic, they can usually resolve or manually fix the link quickly.

Hello,

Your cards may be suspended or your deck settings could be the issue.

Please follow this tutorial to correct deck settings and to unsuspend the cards you want to study: How to Get Started Studying

If this doesn’t resolve the issue for you, please send a screenshot of the Browser window so we can see what’s happening.

I’m afraid it’s none of the above. It simply won’t download the cards from the ankihub deck

In one of your last screenshots, it shows that the deck has a card. Could you now click on Browse and see which card or how many other cards are in it, or did you already exclude it and try installing it again? It can help us understand what’s happening because having zero cards is completely different than just some cards downloading.

In the meantime, please try the following these steps. It would be good if your collection stays the same during these steps, because deleting and trying to download it again can mess some of these steps. So just subscribe to the deck and wait for it to download.

Just so we rule out some things, please follow these steps.

  1. Update your Anki. You can download it here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/. After downloading, simply run the downloaded file to update your application.

  2. Update your AnkiHub add-on:

  • On your Anki main screen, go to Tools > Add-ons > Check for Updates.
  • After the update is complete, please restart Anki.

The try this:

  1. At the bottom of your Anki, go to create a deck, create one and name it anything
  2. In that deck, add a card (any card, just write something and add it)
  3. Sync

If after trying all of these steps nothing changes, could you please upload your logs? Here’s how:

  1. In the Anki app, navigate to the menu: AnkiHub > Help > Upload Logs.
  2. A filename will be shown in a confirmation pop-up. Please copy and paste that filename here for us.
