Anki will not sync with AnkiHub - wants me to sign in with different email address than account email?

I keep receiving this notification - “Syncing failed, because your email address needs to be (re)confirmed. Please visit ankiweb.net, and log in as (email 1) to proceed.”

However, the email address (email 1) that comes up with this notification is one that I don’t use for my AnkiHub account - I signed up for an AnkiHub account using a different email (email 2), which I confirmed on my AnkiHub account page. I tried to see if I had an AnkiHub associated with the email (email 1) that pops up in the notification, and I got a message to email 1 saying there was not an account associated with that email address. I’ve tried signing out of AnkiHub in Anki, re-starting the app, re-starting my computer, still getting this error!

AnkiWeb vs AnkiHub: Understanding the Difference

It looks like you’re experiencing confusion between AnkiWeb and AnkiHub, which are two separate systems.

What’s Happening

The error message you’re seeing is related to AnkiWeb (not AnkiHub):

“Syncing failed, because your email address needs to be (re)confirmed. Please visit ankiweb.net, and log in as (email 1) to proceed.”

This indicates that:

  1. Your Anki desktop application is trying to sync with AnkiWeb using email 1
  2. Your AnkiHub account is set up with email 2

How to Fix This

These are separate systems, so you need to:

  1. First, address the AnkiWeb sync issue:

    • Visit ankiweb.net
    • Log in with the email address mentioned in the error (email 1)
    • Confirm your email if prompted
    • Complete the AnkiWeb sync
  2. Then handle AnkiHub separately:

    • After your AnkiWeb sync is working, you can use AnkiHub with your AnkiHub account (email 2)

Important to Understand

  • AnkiWeb handles syncing your cards across devices
  • AnkiHub is for collaborative decks and sharing content
  • They use separate accounts and can have different email addresses

If you need to change your AnkiHub email to match your AnkiWeb email, you can contact support@ankihub.net with your old email and the new email you want to use.

Hello,

The message is not related to AnkiHub.

It is from AnkiWeb, rather than AnkiHub.

You can follow the instructions provided and reconfirm your email at the address provided in the on-screen message, ankiweb.net

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
