Thanks for all the details you already tried—that’s very helpful.

This specific “I am having trouble finding the answer, please try again” message usually points to one of these:

  1. Temporary server / network issue

    • Make sure you’re online and not behind a VPN/firewall that might block AnkiHub.
    • Try again after a few minutes to rule out a temporary outage.
  2. Anki / add-on version or conflicting add-on

    • Confirm Anki itself is fully up to date (Help → About Anki).
    • In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons → Check for Updates and update AnkiHub if an update is available.
    • Temporarily disable all other add-ons except AnkiHub:
      1. Tools → Add-ons → “Toggle Enabled” on everything except AnkiHub.
      2. Restart Anki and try the AI side panel again.
    • If it works with other add-ons disabled, re-enable them one by one to find the conflict.
  3. Account / login state inside AnkiHub add-on

    • In Anki: Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config (or “Open Add-on”) and verify you are logged into the correct AnkiHub account.
    • Log out inside the add-on (if possible), then log back in.
    • Make sure the email used in AnkiHub matches the one you use on the web.
  4. Card context issue

    • Make sure you’re on a standard note/card (from a synced AnkiHub deck if possible).
    • Try asking a very simple question first (e.g., “Explain this card to me”) on a basic text-heavy card.

If none of that fixes it:

  1. In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → View Log (or “Show Errors” / debug console if available) right after reproducing the issue.
  2. Copy any error messages you see and paste them in a reply here, along with:
    • Your Anki version (Help → About → copy version info)
    • Your operating system (Windows / macOS / Linux + version)
    • Whether the AI side panel ever worked before or has never worked on this device.

With that info we can narrow down whether this is:

  • A known bug in version 25.09.2,
  • A local conflict,
  • Or something account-specific that the AnkiHub team needs to look into on the backend.

I tried all this and nothing works.

Thanks for trying all of that and letting me know it didn’t help.

At this point it’s likely either:

  • an account‑specific issue on AnkiHub’s side, or
  • a bug in the current add‑on/AI backend that we can’t see just from the UI.

To move this forward, could you please reply with the following details? This will be what the AnkiHub team needs to properly investigate:

  1. Anki version

    • In Anki, go to Help → About
    • Click “Copy Debug Info” (or similar) and paste it here.
  2. Operating system

    • e.g. Windows 11, macOS 14.4, or Ubuntu 22.04.
  3. Whether the AI side panel has ever worked on this device

    • Has it never worked, or did it work before and recently stopped?
  4. Exact error from the AnkiHub log

    • Right after you see the “I am having trouble finding the answer…” message:
      1. Go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub
      2. Click View Log / Show Log / Show Errors (wording may vary)
      3. Copy the latest entries (especially any lines mentioning “AI”, “request”, “error”, or HTTP status like 401/403/500) and paste them here.
  5. Screenshot of the side panel

    • If possible, attach a screenshot that shows:
      • The question you asked
      • The “trouble finding the answer” message

Once you send that info, this can be escalated to the AnkiHub dev/support team to check for:

  • API / server errors tied to your account
  • Known issues with version 25.09.2
  • Any region/network‑related blocking on the backend

In the meantime, you can still use AnkiHub AI on the web as a workaround:

  • Go to community.ankihub.net
  • Click the AnkiHub AI icon in the top‑right and ask questions there (you can paste card content manually).
