Ankiweb subscription ruined my anki!

Bought ankihub today, downloaded the step deck, and now my media won’t sync and I can’t use any of my cards because they all dissappear from “new” and don’t go to “learn” even when pressing on again.

Hello,

Ankiweb, or Ankihub?

What media is it that you’re trying to sync, and how are you determining that there’s a problem?

If you see a new card and press again it may not go immediately to learn. This is normal, depending on your settings and learn ahead limit, and can be adjusted based on personal preference.

I got a subscription on anki web after using anki for a year. I downloaded the step deck, and nothing has been the same. I also downloaded the ankihub add on. When i click again or hard the cards dissapear from new but do not go to learn and this has never happened before. My new card limit is 9999

I would be happy to help.

Ankiweb is a free service; there are no subscriptions to use the service. I assume you mean an Ankihub subscription.

When you say ‘nothing has been the same’ can you help me understand what, specifically, has changed?

For the cards disappearing I think you just want to change the learn ahead limit. It’s an easy setting to change to your liking, and I’m happy to help you with that.

The following is a tutorial that will walk you through how to change your Learn Ahead limit: Adjusting the Learn Ahead Limit

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

What I mean is, I have 100 new cards, I click hard or again on the cards and they disappear. They do not go to learn.

So why would this have changed once downloading the new deck and getting the subscription? What will changing the learn ahead limit to 20 minutes do?

Yep, this is the Learn Ahead limit. It’s a setting that controls, to some degree, when cards show up.

Arguably, if you hit ‘again’ (most often because you got the card wrong) you would not want the card to show up again immediately because this would bring it up for review potentially immediately, running counter to the spaced portion of spaced repetition. Getting a card wrong and potentially seeing it again in quick succession can sort of defeat the purpose.

But, as noted above, this is a setting that can be changed to suit your needs. If you’d like for the cards to show up immediately the tutorial linked above will help you accomplish that.

Most likely, when importing the deck, you selected to ‘use recommended settings’ which intentionally includes a Learn Ahead Limit of 0 minutes (example below).

This can be opted out of by choosing not to use recommended settings when subscribing to a deck (as below), or, again, it’s a single setting that can be easily changed to suit your preferences and/or needs.

You mentioned that nothing has been the same since your subscription and that you feel your Anki has been ruined; are there other concerns I can help with?
