I dont find a way to take the free course and I messed up and lost all cards from the deck, cant sync again

I am 48yo. first time using anki
already hating the whole thing
yesterday I installed the last version of the app (today I found out it was not the recommended one). Went back to the old one -24- came back to the 25 version.
Yesterdday I synced with the anki hub and although did not enjoy my experience because just 20 cards showed for each category and I did not know how to navigate the cards etc, it worked
Today after the back and forth with the version, I deleted everything and could never sync again with the deck.
I wanted to take the basic “free course” and when I click on it there is a mastery course (not interested) so I am really not getting how can I loose so much time not to move forward. Help!

Welcome to AnkiHub! Let’s get you back on track

I understand your frustration - Anki can be overwhelming when you’re first getting started, especially if you’ve run into syncing issues. Let me help you sort this out.

First, the version issue

You mentioned switching between Anki versions. The currently recommended version for AnkiHub is Anki 24.04.1, not the newer version 25. This is likely contributing to your sync problems.

To fix your sync issues:

  1. Reinstall the recommended version (24.04.1) from Anki’s website
  2. Install the AnkiHub add-on by following the Getting Started guide
  3. Log in to AnkiHub through the add-on (Tools → AnkiHub)
  4. Re-subscribe to the deck on the AnkiHub explore page
  5. Sync Anki to download the deck

About the free course:

The free AnKing Step Deck course has a separate login from your AnkiHub account. If you’re having trouble accessing it, you can check the login troubleshooting guide.

Starting to study:

Once you’ve successfully synced:

  • Your cards might appear suspended (showing 0 cards)
  • You’ll need to unsuspend them to start studying
  • You can follow the guide on how to start studying for detailed instructions

Don’t worry - learning Anki has a bit of a learning curve, but it gets much easier with practice! If you need more help, feel free to ask specific questions.

which is the web page or link where I access the free anking course? I will start by that one

To access the free AnKing course, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. First, create an AnkiHub account at app.ankihub.net/accounts/signup if you haven’t already done so.

  2. Visit the AnKing website at www.ankipalace.com and navigate to their courses section. The free Step Deck course should be available there.

  3. Note that the login for the AnKing course is separate from your AnkiHub account. This is likely causing some of your confusion.

Accessing the Free AnKing Course

The free AnKing Step Deck course you’re looking for can be accessed through the AnKingMed website. Based on my search of the AnkiHub community, I can provide you with the following information:

How to Access the Free Course:

  1. The free AnKing Step Deck course is accessible at www.ankingmed.com

  2. Important: The course login is different from your AnkiHub account login. This seems to be causing confusion for many users.

  3. If you’re having trouble logging in to the free course, you may need to:

    • Make sure you’re using the correct login credentials (not your AnkiHub ones)
    • Create a separate account specifically for the AnKingMed course website

Course vs. Deck Distinction:

  • The AnKing Step Deck is a collection of flashcards available through AnkiHub (requires a membership)
  • The free course is educational content about how to use the deck effectively

Next Steps After Accessing the Course:

  1. Install Anki version 24.04.1 (the currently recommended version)
  2. Create an AnkiHub account at app.ankihub.net
  3. If you want to use the actual AnKing Step Deck, you’ll need to purchase an AnkiHub membership

If you’re still having trouble accessing the free course, you might want to visit ankingmed.com directly and look for their resources section, or contact their support team for direct assistance with course access.

Would you like me to provide more information about how to set up Anki properly once you’ve accessed the course?

I already completed all the steps.
Re installed version 24
Re sync with Anki hub
Still not seeing a single flashcard in my anki screen.

Troubleshooting Your Empty Deck Issue

I understand your frustration - you’ve reinstalled Anki 24, synced with AnkiHub, but you’re still not seeing any flashcards. This is actually a common issue that has a simple solution!

Why You’re Seeing 0 Cards

When you first download a deck from AnkiHub, all cards are suspended by default. This means they’re in your collection but won’t appear for study until you unsuspend them.

Here’s how to fix it:

  1. Open Anki and click on the Browse button on the main screen
  2. In the left sidebar, look for your deck name
  3. Click on the deck to select it
  4. Press Ctrl+A (or Cmd+A on Mac) to select all cards
  5. Right-click on the selected cards and choose Toggle Suspend
  6. The cards should change from yellow (suspended) to white (active)

Alternative method:

  1. In Browse, click on the Tags section in the left sidebar
  2. Navigate through the tags to find specific topics you want to study
  3. Select those cards, right-click and choose Toggle Suspend

Video tutorial:

There’s a helpful tutorial on this exact issue available at: 🤝 Subscribing to a Deck (scroll down to the “0 Cards Upon Installation?” section)

Let me know if this works for you! If you’re still having issues, could you tell me:

  1. What specific deck are you trying to use?
  2. Are you able to see the deck name in your Anki, just with 0 cards?
  3. Did you confirm the AnkiHub add-on is properly installed and you’re logged in?

there are no cards suspended, there are zero cards in my deck.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

I see that you have a few questions. Is there one in particular I can help with first, and we can go from there?

I see the issue now. If there are truly zero cards in your deck, that suggests the sync with AnkiHub didn’t complete successfully. Let’s troubleshoot this specific problem:

Fixing Your Empty Deck Issue

Check if you’ve completed these critical steps:

  1. Confirm your subscription is active:

    • Log in to app.ankihub.net
    • Check that you have an active subscription
    • Verify you’ve subscribed to the deck you want
  2. Check AnkiHub add-on installation:

    • In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons
    • Make sure AnkiHub is listed and enabled
    • If not, install it with code: 1322529746
  3. Verify you’re logged in to AnkiHub within Anki:

    • Click on “AnkiHub” in the Anki menu
    • Make sure you’re logged in with the same account you used to subscribe to the deck
  4. Force a full sync with AnkiHub:

    • In Anki, click on the AnkiHub menu
    • Go to “Sync” and choose “Force full sync”
    • Wait for the sync to complete

If the deck still doesn’t appear:

  1. Check for error messages:

    • During sync, look for any error messages
    • If you see errors, take a screenshot to help troubleshoot
  2. Try restarting Anki:

    • Sometimes a complete restart of Anki is needed after syncing
  3. Check in Browse view:

    • In Anki, click Browse
    • Look in the left sidebar for any deck names
    • Check if there are any cards listed in the main panel

If you’ve done all these steps and still have no cards, please let me know exactly what deck you’re trying to access, and I can provide more specific help for that particular deck.

Hi Brian, something is wrong here. I could use the flashcards yesteredday night. After touching a few buttons, it is all gone.
Curious
I reinstall the Anki App, never asks me to sing in again (not even to ankihub).
So I honestly do not know what happened but would like to fix it. So far bot suggestions do not improve the situation.

No problem, I’d be happy to help.

Without more context, it’s hard to say what the issue was before but let’s see if we can get you squared away.

A couple of things let’s check first:

  • From your top menu bar, can you click on Anki - About Anki and let me know what your version number is?
  • From your top menu bar, can you also click on Tools - Add-ons, and either let me know which add-ons you have listed there, and/or share a screenshot so that I can see what you see?

Given that info we should be able to make some progress and hopefully get you squared away. :mending_heart:

Version ⁨24.06.3 (d678e393)⁊
Only add on is Anki Hub

Gotcha, let’s check a couple of other things and we should get you set up at baseline, and then from there we can see about your collection and making sure you’re right as rain

First, I know from that sound of it you may have already installed a couple of versions of Anki, but I’d like to make sure we eliminate any potential source of issues so let’s go ahead and make sure that you’re on the most-updated version of Anki just to be super safe:

You’ll want to make sure that you’re on 25.02 (or higher; I believe the current version is 25.02.7).

You can always download the latest version of Anki at the official Anki website: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

Then, once you’ve done that go ahead and open Anki and click on ‘AnkiHub’ from the top of your main screen here:

Once you’ve clicked on that, make sure that you’re logged in. If you’re not already logged in, go ahead and log in.

Once you get here, let me know and we’ll do our best to take care of the rest.

done
version Version ⁨25.02.7 (1b882285)⁊
The anki hub does not ask me for sign in, it is signed in

Awesome, those are great signs.

Okay, you are officially on the correct version of Anki and you’re logged into AnkiHub, so those pieces of the puzzle are all set and you’re good to go there.

Now that we have that settled for you, what else can I help with?

I do not see the flash cards despite sync and there are no flashcards suspended that I can recognize

Gotcha,

Okay first, if you can on the left-hand side of your screen take a look and see if this tag is present:

  1. Is that tag present?
  2. If it is present, how many cards are listed as being present in your collection?

Easy peasy; give this tutorial a shot and let me know how you fare afterward: Resetting Local Changes

Should take about a minute, maybe two minutes tops
