Yes, you can create subdecks from your AnkiHub deck! Here’s how to organize your AnkiHub cards into subdecks:
Understanding Home Decks in AnkiHub
When you subscribe to an AnkiHub deck, it creates what’s called a “Home Deck” in your Anki collection. This is where new cards from AnkiHub are placed. The important thing to understand is:
You can move cards to any deck you want, and they will still receive updates from the AnkiHub deck.
How to Create Subdecks
-
Create your subdeck structure first:
- In Anki, click “Create Deck” (or use keyboard shortcut ‘a’)
- For subdecks, use the format:
MainDeck::Subdeck
(the double colon creates a hierarchy) - Example:
AnKing::Cardiology
orAnKing::Respiratory
-
Move your cards to these subdecks:
- Browse your cards (press ‘b’)
- Select the cards you want to move (using filters/tags to find relevant cards)
- Right-click and choose “Change Deck…”
- Select your target subdeck
-
Important note about Home Deck:
- When new cards are added to your AnkiHub subscription, they’ll still appear in the Home Deck
- You’ll need to manually organize these new cards into your subdeck structure
Keeping Your Organization
Some users have reported that their subdeck organization seems to reset. This can happen if:
- You’ve deleted the Home Deck without changing the Home Deck setting in AnkiHub
- There’s a conflict between your local changes and the AnkiHub updates
To ensure your organization stays intact:
- Don’t delete the original Home Deck without updating your Home Deck settings in AnkiHub
- If you must change the Home Deck, go to AnkiHub menu → Subscribed Decks and update your Home Deck preference
The key point is that AnkiHub and your local Anki decks are not tightly bonded - you have flexibility to organize cards how you want while still receiving content updates.
Is there anything specific about your deck organization that you’re trying to accomplish?
Hello,
Do you want to create subdecks for your own AnkiHub deck, or are you trying to organize the AnKing Step Deck into subdecks?
If it’s for your own AnkiHub deck, you just need to add a subdeck tag to your cards. For example:
AnkiHub_Subdeck::My_Deck::My_Subdeck
-
This will place the cards into the subdeck “My_Subdeck” under the deck “My_Deck”.
-
If the cards don’t go to the subdecks right away, you can click this: go to Browse > AnkiHub > Rebuild subdecks and move cards into subdecks
If you want to organize the AnKing Step Deck into subdecks:
-
You can use the Change Deck function. This tutorial explains how:
How to move cards from your old V11 deck to a new deck
-
However, instead of selecting the note type as shown in the tutorial, you’ll need to select the tag or group of tags you want to move into a new subdeck you created.
Let me know if you need help with any of the steps!

The tutorial doesn’t show exactly the same goal you’re aiming for, so if you run into any trouble, just let me know! I can record a video if that helps
