Clarification on suspended B&B cards with old due dates in AnKing v12

Hi there,

I’m using the AnKing v12 Step 1 deck alongside Boards & Beyond. While going through the B&B tags (for example #AK_Step1_v12::#B&B::06_Cardio), I’ve noticed that some cards are suspended but show due dates in the past (e.g. 2025-05-01). These aren’t brand-new cards — I’ve reviewed them before, but at some point they became suspended. As far as I’m aware, I haven’t manually suspended them myself.

From what I understand, AnkiHub/AnKing updates sometimes auto-suspend duplicate or lower-yield cards when better versions are added. Could this suspension also be related to the revised B&B cardio videos?

My questions are:

  1. Are these safe to leave suspended, since their content should already be represented by active siblings?
  2. Is there any risk that unique B&B content ends up suspended, or are they always true duplicates/alternates?
  3. For systems I’ve already completed, is the best workflow to just unsuspend the is:new B&B update cards and leave the suspended-with-due-date ones alone?

Thanks!

As far as I’m aware, the updates from AnkiHub/AnKing do not auto-suspend duplicates, it only tags the duplicates (and there haven’t been that many tagged as duplicate in the last year, only ~20). You can see the cards tagged as duplicate in Browse on the desktop app under AnkiHub. Is it possible your settings (in Deck Options) are to suspend leech cards rather than just tag them?

For better or worse, that’s not the case. Anki itself, the software, does not have any mechanisms by which to suspend or unsuspend cards automatically.

From the sound of it, I think you’re describing leeches, which is a different mechanism and does not involve the suspension of cards.

Impossible to say, without knowing what’s on the cards.

Neither Anki nor AnkiHub automatically suspend any cards, really.

Unfortunately, hard to say again here as it depends on your review history, progress, goals, and what coverage you need. it really depends on what cards you have suspended or unsuspended, I’m sorry to say

Hopefully that offers some clarification, though happy to answer any other questions you might have and/or to be of help otherwise however we can. :mending_heart:
