Custom study mode crashing

Hello! Iā€™m having an issue with the custom study feature for the Anking Step Deck v12. Whenever I try to choose tags after choosing ā€œStudy by card state or tagā€, my Anki app freezes, and I have to force quit. I donā€™t get this issue when I try to use the custom study feature for other decks. I was somehow able to make 2 custom study decks recently, but have not been able to make any additional decks, which hadnā€™t been a problem for me with v11.

After looking at previous posts about this issue from last year, I have tried:

  • Updating my Anki app to the latest version
  • Restarting in safe mode
  • Deleting the Ankihub addon
  • Restarting/updating my laptop

Are there any other potential solutions you would recommend? Thank you so much!

Hello,

I havenā€™t heard of anyone else having this issue so Iā€™m not immediately certain of any obvious thoughts on potential solutions.

A couple of quick things:

  • Can you confirm for me the version number of Anki that youā€™re using?
  • Is there a reason youā€™re using ā€˜custom studyā€™ as opposed to filtered decks?

Iā€™m having the same problem. I have version 25.02 (038d85b1). Iā€™ve tried rebooting both the program and updating to the latest version. I use custom study to make it so all my review cards go into one deck.

Just to confirm: are you using custom-filtered decks or custom study?

Are you getting an error message?

How many custom studies do you have already in your Anki? or is this the first one you are making? @treatnyeet95

I have a lot of custom studies. I use it to filter decks into individual topics while putting all of my review cards into a master deck. I managed to resolve the issue by restoring a previous backup of my cards. After that, I did everything the same and it worked fine.
