When my deck synced, the FirstAid tags duplicated for Pharm, Heme, MSK, and Neuro. How do I restore it to the original tags?
Hello,
I would be happy to help.
You might double-check and see if some of those tags are empty (which is likely to be the case). Provided that they are you can right-click and delete the empty tag/s. Should take just a second or two
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
unfortunately, they are not empty. also, i believe if i sync the deck the deleted tags will come back.
Unfortunately there isn’t a server-side way to delete tags from your local collection; they would have to be deleted on your end
If the tags are part of AnkiHub, they will be reinstituted when you sync again. However, if as it looks like you have duplicates and both copies are not stored on AnkiHub, tags that are not stored on AnkiHub will not come back upon syncing
You might double-check a couple of things:
If you can, within Anki go to your top menu bar. From there, click Anki - About Anki and check your version number.
- You’ll want to make sure that you’re on 25.02. If it’s any other version, you’ll want to upgrade since older versions often run into little issues with add-ons.
- You can always download the latest version of Anki at the official Anki website: https://apps.ankiweb.net/
From there, you’ll want to make sure that your add-ons are all up to date. This can also be done from within Anki: Tools - Add-ons - Check for Updates
And lastly, you can institute a corroboration check of your local selection against the server copy here: Resetting Local Changes
However, if it does turn out that you have extra ancillary tags, it may be that the only solution is to manually delete them.
For reference, this is what the current tag structure looks like:
Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.

directions for local changes:
what my ankihub button looks like:
my anki version was updated yesterday, which is when i noticed the issue after the update
my addons have no updates
i tried to follow the instructions but my drop down under ankihub is newer than the instructions
Hello @jennafrank,
The duplicate tags is most likely because you have kept cards we’ve deleted on our side, therefore, tags won’t be updated on those cards.
To fix this:
- Go to the Ankihub_Deleted tag in your Anki browser
- Select all those cards and delete them
- Clear unused tags by going to any card in the browser right click on it and clear unused tags
this is what mine looks like:
i deleted all the cards in “deleted notes” and then cleared unused tags bu the extra tags are still there and there are cards in there, suggesting that were not in the “deleted notes” section
Can you screenshot a few of those cards so I can check which ones specifically are experiencing this issue?
Can you try resetting local changes once more and see if that fixes it?
these screen shots^^ have the extra tags in their entirety
regarding the local changes, the instructions on how to reset local changes do not work for me because my “AnkiHub” dropdown menu is different from the instructions video
Can you try going to the Browse screen first, then click on the AnkiHub addon tab? Resetting local changes will fix this hopefully.
Step 1:
Step 2:
Then select AnKing step deck
i was able to reset all local changes and restarted anki, but the tags and cards are still there
