There are cards from the deck that are not listed in any of the subdecks how is this possible? Did I download something incorrectly?
Hello,
Which cards are these, can you take a screenshot?
They are most likely new cards added to the deck
Some of these feels like they should belong in Physics and Math, Behavioral, etc. I don’t know how many there are but here are a few of them.
@learnankihub maybe you can provide some insight?
Sorry, I’ve been behind on checking Community the last few days (secondary season).
I think I happened to answer this question on Reddit a few moments ago. I’m away from my computer atm but my first interpretation is that since most of the AnKing decks didn’t use subdecks for a long time, and even though some do now support it, there’s nothing static about the subdeck organization. My guess here is that all the cards are present and just not organized into the subdecks that are shown.
You can organize your subdecks as you see fit, it won’t affect the underlying architecture of the collection.
Classically people go through the MCAT deck by resource (via tags) rather than subdecks so it isn’t an issue for most folks. Subdecks can be a useful form of organization if you want to utilize it that way, but most people end up guiding their card use by tags according to whatever resource they’re using (Kaplan, etc), so the subdecks aren’t necessarily relevant.
I see. So I haven’t download anything incorrectly?
If that is the case is there a way I can see all the cards that aren’t placed in subdecks so I can make all the organization I need to?
I can’t be sure from here but you can easily check by going to browser, clicking on AK_MCAT tag and seeing how many cards are listed under that tag. Should be about 6,300.
I’m away from my computer atm or I’d send a screenshot. If you can’t find it I should be at my desk in a couple of hours and can walk you through it then if you need.
Do you add new cards to the subdecks in newer updates or will I have to manually do that?
No, not really. This is due to a few factors:
First, different people may want different subdeck organizations and it’s impossible to have more than one. Whereas it is possible to organize by multiple hierarchies via tag.
Second, if it were to be organized by a given hierarchy, say subject matter, that may not align neatly with someone who is following along via a specific resource, say Kaplan. So that particular subdeck organization would not be useful for a lot of folks.
Third, some cards may correspond to more than one topic; could be Biology, but also Biochem, for example. Which deck should that card go in? With tags, this issue is avoided entirely.
Lastly, there’s not really any superior organization offered by subdecks that isn’t offered by tags which has traditionally made tags the preferred method of organization. The optionality for subdecks is there for users who want to make use of them, and you can essentially organize them as you see fit but to the best of my knowledge there are no plans to formally organize via subdecks for the reasons listed above. Also because individual users may have different formats for their subdeck organization, which would complicate or contradict Ankihub trying to enforce a particular deck organization on users that have customized their own setup.
That could change, but I don’t imagine it’s super likely.
But every single other card is also inserted into the correct deck…
After going through the whole deck, I found that there are only 18 cards that are not inserted into subdecks. I can insert these all by myself so theres really no problem, but you just said there are no plans to do this which makes no sense since all cards seem to be put in Subdecks just fine.
It’s been some time since I’ve used the MCAT deck; it may be that the support for subdecks has changed over time.
For many/most decks there is no subdeck support, though that can be changed depending on the authors and individual desires for organization.
Alls well and good then. I just made this thread because I was worried that my download had someone corrupted and put cards where they weren’t supposed to be. If the only factor here is that the administrators just simple choose not to use subdecks thats perfectly fine. I just though it was a software glitch.
