How to create custom school lecture tags &Will this mess up Anking sync?

I have the V12 to infinity lifetime subscription. Because my school lectures and Anking do not line up perfectly, I was thinking about creating tags for each lecture, and then having a SEPARATE deck with additional material that Anking could not cover for me. My question is, will this mess up with Anking syncing, since the tags are not a protected field? I am concerned that when there are updates to those cards that I personally tag myself, that the card will not update because it sees it has been edited. I have been adding notes to the “Lecture Notes” box because I know that field is protected. I just want to make sure I can add new tags to these cards without messing things up.

You would have to protect your tags, you can do so like this:

If you do that, then nothing will be overwritten and you should be good to go. The cards will update if you have not protected the text and extra fields
