How to definitively import Physeo media to Anking Overhaul?

Hey all,

I am a Physeo and AnkiHub subscriber and enjoy both services. I’ve seen that there are Physeo media packs out there to incorporate into the Anking Overhaul deck, but I can’t seem to find any up to date information on where to download these images, or how to add these files to the Anking Overhaul.

There are two downloads on the Physeo Anking site that is a collection of images. There are two separate files on the site, one that seems to be a set of images in a .zip and another file that is an .apkg that seems to just be a separate deck that is not associated with the Anking deck at all. There are two different sets of instructions there too and they seem to be somewhat technical. They have you use a specific add on called Special Fields.

When I follow the directions with the Special Fields addon, then download the .zip file and import using the AnkiHub > Import Media function, it says “6802 files found in ‘collection.media’” and then it successfully has imported the files. However, if I go to the Anking Overhaul deck go to Browse and search Physeo:_* (which should find all cards with anything in the Physeo field) it finds nothing. I have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing without success.

After this, if I go to Tools > Check Media it says

Missing files: 92
Unused files: 6784

So I do not think they are associated correctly. I have also reset all local changes to the deck without success.

(NB - The instructions regarding the add on might also be out of date, there are more fields in the Anking Overhaul than are listed on the Physeo site.)

I’ve seen the YouTube video from the Anking here, but it is 3 years old and seems out of date.

There is a reddit post that seems similar to what I’m experiencing. However, it seems like they were able to figure this out where I am failing.

There is a post on the forums here which appears to be from Physeo as well with a completely different set of instructions than on Physeo’s site. It suggests that the Physeo Step 2 deck should be on AnkiHub which I do not believe is true.

I’m just interested in getting this to work! I think it would be good if there was a clear set of directions out there that could help everyone who uses both of these resources out.

Thanks for any help.

Hello,

Please try this first:
Please try resetting your local changes. To do this:

Go to browse in your Anki → at the top click on ankihub addon tab → press reset all local changes

This will restore everything to what AnkiHub has unless you have specifically protected those fields

Then import media by downloading the physeo media folder then do the following

  1. Go to the ankihub addon

  2. Click import media

  3. Then click folder

CleanShot 2024-05-17 at 10.41.17

  1. Select the folder
  2. Import

You should have the physeo images after that

The special fields addon is no longer used

Thank you for the response. I have managed to get this working. I think removing the Special Fields Add-on, and making sure the Physeo field is protected was the trick for me.

I think for helping other people with this, do you mind clarifying something for me? Should the Physeo field be protected or unprotected when adding the images? On the Reddit post it looks like the suggestion was to have the field unprotected, but the default from AnkiHub is to have it protected. With the field protected seemed to work for me, but I’m not sure if I am making a mistake.

It should be unprotected

By default, it is protected since you need to have the subscription to be able to see them. So we don’t want people having empty images in the physeo field

So by default, we protect it. If you have the subscription then you can manually unprotect it and then reset local changes to get the image HTML → then import the media → see the images

Wonderful, that makes a lot of sense!

So any future users who are interested should do the following to get the Physeo images added:

These directions have been edited in accordance to the reply from Ahmed7 below, meaning that this order is the correct one!

  1. Unprotect the Physeo field

  2. Reset local changes

  3. Sync with AnkiHub

  4. Add images from the AnKing v12 PHYSEO images folder

Correct, but switch step 1 and 2 around!

Awesome. Thanks again, I have edited my post above (and added a disclaimer that it has been edited after your response) just in case it is helpful to someone in the future!
