Iām primarily using Physeo to study for STEP1 and Iāve added a large quantity of media into the field. With the latest AnKing Step Deck update, I want to get the Physeo media that is now included, but I am worried that unprotecting the Physeo field and syncing will cause all the media that Iāve put into there to be erased.
Also on a related note, Iāve been writing out keys for the Physeo sketches (this is a big part of why I am worried about losing all the media that Iāve created). This is similar to how the Sketchy fields have the sketch picture + a separate screenshot listing out all the symbols and what they mean. Is there some way that I could help implement this into the official deck? It took a lot of work on my part that I donāt want to go to waste and I think it would be very helpful for those using Physeo as a main resource.

Youāre right to think carefully before unprotecting and syncingāthatās where most accidental data loss happens.
1. Will AnkiHub overwrite your existing Physeo media?
In general:
Protected fields: AnkiHub cannot change them.
Unprotected fields: AnkiHub can update them during sync.
So if you unprotect the Physeo field and sync, what happens depends on how that field is used in the shared deck:
If the deckās official Physeo field is currently empty (or only sparsely filled) on AnkiHub, but you have lots of media locally, then:
When you unprotect and then download updates from AnkiHub, your local content may be overwritten if the field content on AnkiHub is different.
If your local content differs from whatās on AnkiHub, AnkiHub does not do a merge; it just replaces the field according to the deck configuration.
Because of that, to keep your work safe:
Back up first
File ā Exportā¦
Export your deck only, with:
Include: Notes + Media
Donāt include scheduling (optional, but fine either way)
Save that .apkg somewhere safe.
Duplicate your field before experimenting
In the āBrowseā window, select one of your notes.
Use the āBrowseā window to batch copy your Physeo field content into this new backup field (you can use the āSet Fieldā or copyāpaste via the browser if needed).
This way, even if the original Physeo field is overwritten later, your content still exists in the backup field.
Then you can safely:
Unprotect the official Physeo field,
Sync with AnkiHub to pull in the official Physeo media,
And if needed copy pieces from your backup field back into the official one.
If youād like, I can outline specific āclick-by-clickā steps to duplicate and copy the field contents.
2. Contributing your Physeo ākeyā images to the official deck
This sounds very valuable, and exactly the kind of thing that helps everyone.
Since youāve already created:
Physeo images/media, and
Separate ākeyā screenshots (like the Sketchy legend),
you can contribute them to the official deck via AnkiHub suggestions:
Make sure your media is properly attached to the notes
So each cardās fields include the images in a consistent way.
Use AnkiHubās suggestion system
In Anki (with the AnkiHub add-on), open a card where you have your Physeo + key set up.
Use the AnkiHub ā Suggest change option on that note.
In the suggestion description, explain:
That this is a Physeo sketch with a legend/key similar to Sketchyās extra image.
What each field is intended to show (e.g. Physeo Image vs Physeo Key).
Submit the suggestion.
Coordinate format/field design
It often helps to post in the forum (this topic is a good place) describing:
How youāre currently storing the key (which field, typical format),
A few example cards.
The AnKing/AnkiHub team can then:
Decide whether to add a new dedicated field (e.g. Physeo Key),
Or standardize a format in an existing field.
Once thatās decided, you can keep submitting more suggestions following that standardized format.
If youāre willing, you can also:
Share a small sample deck (e.g. 5ā10 cards) showing exactly how youāve implemented the Physeo + key layout, so the maintainers can review and potentially adopt the structure for the official deck.
If you tell me:
Which note type youāre using for these Physeo cards (e.g. āAnKing Overhaul Step vXā and which card type),
And which field currently holds your custom Physeo media and keys,
I can give more specific instructions for:
safe backup/duplicate field creation, and
the cleanest way to propose this structure through AnkiHub.
It is unfortunately the case that if you update a field the existing material in that field may be overwritten. Thatās sort of an inherent feature of AnkiHub being able to write to any given field, in that it may necessarily edit and adjust what is currently present in that field.
You might be able to use something like the Batch Edit add-on or Advanced Copy add-on (https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1898445115) to move things from the Physeo field to the Lecture Notes field, for example, though I havenāt used the add-on myself and canāt guarantee 100% that this approach would work with any absolute certainty
Might be worth a shot, though, and to the best of my knowledge this may be your best/only orientation in preserving the edits you currently have while still being able to access field updates as well
All users are always welcome to suggest changes and new material to any of the decks on AnkiHub.
This can be done readily by suggesting a change to a given field, and this tutorial can walk you through how to do that: How to suggest a change to AnkiHub
You can suggest changes to individual cards, or to groups of cards at once in bulk, suggest media, corrections, etc., etc. Once you have made those suggestions, the maintainer team for that particular deck will look them over and collectively come to determinations as to whether, and how best, to include them into the deck.

In chatting with one of the deck maintainers, they pointed out to me an important consideration which is that, because the Physeo material is proprietary, we are somewhat limited in being able to host any media that is an adaptation or adjustment to their existing media forms
Basically, anything that would alter, or add notations, or otherwise adjust proprietary media we probably arenāt able to consider for inclusion in the AnKing Step deck, unfortunately. Since the media doesnāt belong to us, and our sharing it comes with the express permission of Physeo, we would likely be unable to host any alterations to their existing media without full agreement, sadly
Hopefully that offers a little bit of clarity, though please feel free to follow up with any questions you have or anything else we can help with and happy to be of help however we may.
