How to put all the cards back into the original Anking Deck, and make sure no cards are missing?

I moved cards from the anking hub into the decks I made, and now I want to put everything back while preparing for the board exams, so things are more organized.

May I ask if there is any way to move the cards back into their original decks? I don’t remember where these cards are from, so that’s a huge problem as well. And I wanna make sure there are no cards missing from the original anking deck as I am doing my review.

What should I do?

You can mostly get back to the “original” AnKing structure, but there are a few important limitations.

Because you manually moved cards into your own decks, Anki/AnkiHub does not keep a simple record of “original subdeck name” for each card. So there’s no 1‑click “restore to exact original subdeck” button. But you can:

  1. Make sure you’re not missing any cards from the AnKing deck
  2. Recombine everything under a single AnKing parent deck (or a small number of decks) for boards

1. Make sure you have all cards from the shared AnKing deck

If you’re using AnkiHub with the AnKing deck:

  1. In Anki (desktop), go to AnkiHub → Manage Subscriptions.
  2. Select the AnKing deck subscription.
  3. Click Download deck / Restore deck (wording may vary slightly).
  4. Choose:
    • “Download missing cards” (or similar) so you only add cards you’re missing, without overwriting your scheduling.
  5. Sync Anki when done.

This will:

  • Add back any cards that were deleted or never imported.
  • Not move your existing cards, but it ensures no cards are missing from the AnKing subscription.

If you suspect you’ve heavily altered the deck and want it truly pristine, explain your situation and we can walk through a safer “fresh profile + export scheduling” style approach — but that’s more involved.

2. Move your scattered cards back under a single AnKing parent deck

Since you just want it organized for boards, it’s usually enough to put everything back under one parent deck like:

AnKing::AnKing Overhaul (Step)

Even if the exact original subdeck is lost, you’ll still:

  • Have all the cards
  • Keep your scheduling and tags (including AnKing tags)
  • Be able to use tags/filters to study by topic.

A. Find all AnKing cards (even if they’re in other decks)

  1. In the Browse window, search:

    "deck:*" tag:AnKing

    or (for newer versions):

    "deck:*" "AnKing::"

If you’re not seeing results, try:

    tag:*king*

and adjust once you recognize the exact AnKing tag pattern in your collection (e.g., tag:AnKing, tag:AnKing_v12, etc.).

  2. This should show all AnKing cards, regardless of which deck they’re currently in.

B. Move them back into the AnKing deck

  1. In Browse, Select All (Ctrl+A / Cmd+A).
  2. Click “Change Deck…”.
  3. Choose the AnKing deck (or the top‑level AnKing deck name you originally used).
  4. Confirm.

Now:

  • All AnKing cards are back under the same parent deck.
  • Your personal decks will no longer contain those cards.

Note: This does not re‑create the exact original subdeck breakdown if you destroyed it, but it does centralize everything so you can use tags instead of subdecks for organization.

3. Using tags to mimic “original deck” organization

The AnKing deck is heavily tag‑based (e.g., by resource, system, topic). Once all cards are back under AnKing:

  • In Browse, filter by tags like:
    • tag:AnKing::Step::MS2
    • tag:AnKing::Boards (examples – your exact tag tree may differ)
  • You can:
    • Create filtered decks for certain blocks (e.g., only UWorld‑tagged cards).
    • Or just study the whole AnKing deck and rely on the tag browser for reference.

4. If you really need to mimic the original subdecks

If:

  • You still have a fresh, untouched copy of the AnKing deck somewhere (another profile/computer/backup),
    you can:
  1. Open that untouched profile and note the deck structure + tags.
  2. In your main profile, use tags (e.g., AnKing::Step1::Cardio) to move cards into matching subdecks using:
    • Browse → search by tag → Change Deck to that subdeck.
  3. Repeat for each major subdeck you care about for boards (e.g., Pathoma, Sketchy, etc.), not necessarily every tiny subdeck.

This is more manual but possible if you really want the structure back.

5. If you’re unsure what you’ve changed

Reply back with:

  • A screenshot of your current deck list (left side of Anki main screen).
  • A screenshot of Browse showing an AnKing card’s tags and deck.

That will make it easy to give you concrete, step‑by‑step instructions tailored to your setup (e.g., which exact deck name to choose for “Change Deck…”, and which tag to search for).

Hello,

It looks like the bot pretty well answered your question, though if there is anything else we can help with please don’t hesitate to reach out

Hi,

I actually don’t see what the bot is mentioning on my anki here.

Please see the attachment below.

Best,
Janet

Hello again

I believe the bot did answer the question, though you may take a second look and let me know if you have any other questions:

I am following the steps from the bot to solve this issue. And I am current stuck with step 1.

I tried the way bot mentioned, but then my anki set-up look a little different. Please see attached. On the left is the bot, and on the right is my anki.

Best,
Janet

From the image you shared, it looks like you’re on the ‘Deck Management’ page:

Though the instructions are guiding you to the ‘Browse’ page:

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.

problem for this is that I don’t know which decks these cards are originally from anymore, and I am unsure where are all the cards right now. They are a little everywhere in my anki.

Based on my understanding of the description you’ve given, they are all from the AnKing Step deck.

You don’t have to know where the cards are right now. By using the instructions posted above you can use tags to select the cards, regardless of where they are located. Then, once you have selected them, you can easily move them (in this case, I’m assuming back to the AnKing Step deck)

Thank you. I moved them back.

Anyway to ensure I am not missing decks?

Which decks are you hoping to ensure that you’re not missing?

The pathoma anki deck, and the sketchy micro and pharma decks. These are the only ones I have touched.

I can’t say I’m familiar with those decks personally, though using the ‘reset local changes’ function should push a corroboration check against the server copy to ensure that everything is as it should be

Okay. thank you! Then, everything should be good for me.

Thanks!
