Hereâs how to interpret what youâre seeing and what to do next.
1. Did your v11 â v12 update work?
The key points:
- You now have v12 tags:
#AK_Step1_v12, #AK_Step2_v12, #AK_Step3_v12.
- You still also have v11 tags:
#AK_Step1_v11, #AK_Step2_v11.
Thatâs normal after updating with AnkiHub: the notes stay the same, and the tags are what change. Many cards will carry both a v11 and v12 tag (for example, a card that used to be in Step1_v11 might now be in a different v12 step).
From the numbers you posted:
Anking overhaul (anking step deck) 35068 cards
AK other 35071 cards
Those are roughly the size of the AnKing v12 deck, so itâs very likely your update basically worked.
2. Should you delete the v11 cards/tags?
Do not delete anything yet.
- The
#AK_Step1_v11 / #AK_Step2_v11 tags are only labels on the same underlying notes.
- If you âdelete v11 cards,â youâll almost certainly delete the same cards that are in v12.
Instead, you can simply hide or ignore the old v11 tags:
- In the Browser, expand
Tags.
- Rightâclick each v11 tag (
#AK_Step1_v11, #AK_Step2_v11, etc.).
- Choose Rename and add something like
_old if you want, or just leave them â they donât hurt anything.
If later youâre 100% sure you donât need them for reference, you can remove those tags (not the cards) via:
- Search:
tag:#AK_Step1_v11
- Select all â
Cards > Remove tags⌠â remove only the v11 tag.
3. Are you missing any v12 cards?
A quick check you can do:
- In the Browser search bar, type:
tag:#AK_Step1_v12 OR tag:#AK_Step2_v12 OR tag:#AK_Step3_v12
- Look at the Total cards count at the top.
Then compare that total to the estimate from the AnKing v12 AnkiHub page (the exact number can vary slightly, but it should be around the midâ30k range). If youâre within a few hundred cards, youâre almost certainly fine.
If you want, you can reply with:
- A screenshot of the search bar + card count when you search the three v12 tags together, and
- Your AnkiHub subscription deck name
and I can help you confirm.
4. What about the other tags like AK_Original_Decks, AK_Other, etc.?
These are organizational tags AnKing uses:
#AK_Original_Decks and #AK_Other are usually safe to keep; they just group cards and donât duplicate them.
AnkiHub_Deleted â cards here are ones that the AnKing team has removed upstream. Generally you suspend or delete these only if youâre sure you donât need them.
You donât need to delete any of these tags to study effectively. Just focus on the v12 step tags for your current study:
#AK_Step1_v12
#AK_Step2_v12
#AK_Step3_v12
TL;DR
- Your update likely worked; you now have v12 tags.
- Donât delete âv11 cardsâ; at most, remove or ignore the v11 tags later.
- Study only from the v12 step tags/deck.
- If you share the total card count for all v12 tags combined, I can help you doubleâcheck that your deck is complete.
