If I edit the html of the AnKing card type, will this be overridden on subsequent syncs to AnkiHub?

See title for question. I want to add a scratchpad text box to type and verify my answers (I have this on my own Anki cards already, so I basically have the code), but I wasn’t sure if syncing would override all changes each time.

Hello,

For non-Ankihub cards: cards in your local collection that are not part of an Ankihub deck you can edit as much as you like. The short version is that if the cards are not part of an Ankihub deck, Ankihub cannot ‘see’ those cards and so you can edit them as you see fit without issue.

For Ankihub cards: In the majority of cases edits that you make to the Anking note type are likely to cause some issues. In many cases, they will cause a discrepancy error with the Ankihub servers and either be overwritten or cause you to be unable to sync.

That being said, there are some modifications you can make to the note types, that may or may not conflict. If you head to the note editing screen in Anki you will notice the following:

If you scroll all the way down you will see an end-point past which users can specify some degree of customization of note type dynamics:

There are limits, though, to the modifications that can be made. Whether or not the edits you’re hoping to make will cause a conflict or not I can’t confidently say; you might give it a shot and see if it works. In general, though, editing note types for Ankihub cards can be a bit fraught.

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Hi Brian,

This is perfect and exactly what I wanted to know! Adding my modifications below that comment seems to have worked perfectly – thanks!
