I am having trouble with the IO One by One Anking Step Deck Note Type. No square populates for me to create the one-by-one occlusions. Does anyone have a solution? I know the closet addon is not working.

This is a known issue, and itās not related to the old Closet add-on.
The āIO One by Oneā note type in the AnKing Step Deck relies on Ankiās native Image Occlusion editor, not on Closet. When no rectangle/square appears for you to draw occlusions, it usually means Anki isnāt opening the Image Occlusion editor correctly.
Please try the following in order:
1. Confirm youāre using Ankiās native Image Occlusion
- In Anki, go to Add.
- At the top, click Type.
- Select the built-in āImage Occlusionā note type (not the AnKing IO template) and:
- Click Select Image or Paste image from clipboard.
- See if the Image Occlusion editor opens and lets you draw rectangles/ellipses.
If native Image Occlusion doesnāt work:
- Update to the latest standard Anki version from:
https://apps.ankiweb.net - Disable add-ons (start Anki while holding Shift) and test again.
- If it still fails, this is an Anki issue rather than AnkiHub/AnKing; youāll likely need to ask on the official Anki support forum with details about your OS and Anki version.
2. Check your Anki version
The IO One by One template assumes Anki 23.10+ (native IO support).
- Go to Help ā About (or Anki ā About on Mac).
- If youāre on an older version (e.g. 2.1.54, 2.1.49, etc.), update, then test the IO One by One note type again.
3. Try a fresh IO One by One note
Sometimes a corrupted note or missing image can make it seem like āno square populates.ā
- Click Add ā Type ā IO One by One AnKing Step Deck (or similarly named template).
- Make sure you actually:
- Load an image into the Image field (via paste or file).
- Then enter the IO editor (depending on how the template is set up, this might be via Cards⦠or a button in the note type UI).
If the editor opens but you still canāt draw a square, itās almost always either:
- An outdated Anki version, or
- An interfering add-on.
4. If it still doesnāt work
Please reply in your topic with:
- Your Anki version (e.g. 24.06).
- Your operating system.
- Whether the built-in āImage Occlusionā note type works when tested alone.
- Whether the problem persists with add-ons disabled (Shift on startup).
That info will make it much easier for AnkiHub/AnKing support to pinpoint whatās going on with the IO One by One template.
Hello,
I would be happy to help. ![]()
You are correct, in that the Closet add-on I believe is no longer supported. Your best bet may be to use the AnKing Note Types add-on instead, which I believe has the appropriate updated functions to be able to handle the IO one-by-one note types
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if thereās anything else I can help with. ![]()
Thank you, Brian. I added the add-on and updated all the note types. Unfortunately, I still cannot perform the IO one-byone. I also watched the video from github on youtube and the square is not there for me. Here is what my interface looks like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYUhNMyAZNs. time stamp 19:45
Use this button

that occludes the whole image. I want to create rectangles to occlude parts of the image and then do one by one IO.
You can create rectangles by clicking anywhere on the image after pressing the button.
my king. thank you!!!
