IO one by one assistance

Hi there,

I am looking to use the Anking One by One IO note type but am experiencing some difficulties. Here is what I have so far:

1. I have downloaded the anking note types add on

2. I have also downloaded the clozet add on (though it seems like this may not be necessary)

3. In terms of process–I am selecting the IO one by one note type; then I am pasting my image into the image field; then I am clicking the anking logo which allows me to create boxes; then I right click the image and click “accept occlusions” which populates the IO field; after doing all of that, I am not seeing any of the occlusion boxes when I go to card in my deck. What am I missing here?

I have attached a video to demonstrate what I mean. Any advice would be much appreciated.

You’re very close—this usually comes down to one of a few things in the “AnKing IO One by One” workflow:

1. Make sure cards are actually being created

After you click Accept occlusions, AnKing’s IO tool should:

  • Fill the IO field, and
  • Increase the card count for that note type (shown at the bottom of the Add window, e.g. “Cards: 0 → 5”).

Please check:

  1. On the Add window, bottom‑right: does “Cards: 0” stay at 0 even after accepting occlusions?
    • If yes → the template isn’t generating cards from the IO field.
  2. In the Browser, find the note you just added:
    • Select it and look on the right side: how many cards does it say (“X of X cards selected”)?

If it says 0 cards, that’s why nothing shows when you review.

2. Confirm you’re using the AnKing IO One by One note type + card template

Sometimes people select the correct note type but have lost the card templates.

  1. Go to Tools → Manage Note Types.
  2. Select AnKing IO One by One (or similarly named).
  3. Click Cards…
  4. In the template editor:
    • Ensure there is at least one card type in the list on the left.
    • The front template should reference something like {{IO}}, {{Image}}, and maybe {{cloze:IO}} depending on the exact version.
    • If the front/back templates are blank or don’t reference the IO field, cards will be empty.

If the templates look wrong/empty, the fastest fix is often:

  • Re‑import the AnKing Note Types (or the specific IO note type) from the original AnKing source deck, and
  • Then move your notes to that fresh note type (Browser → select notes → Notes → Change Note Type…).

3. Check that you’re actually seeing new IO cards in that deck

In your screenshot it says “Congratulations! You have finished this deck for now.” That message will appear if:

  • The deck has no due cards, and
  • The newly‑created IO cards are in another deck or their due date is in the future.

Please verify:

  1. On the Add screen’s top‑right, which Deck is selected when you’re creating IO cards?
  2. In the Browser, search for:
    • deck:"Your Deck Name" and tag or search by today’s date (added:1) to find just‑added notes.
  3. Select a newly added IO note and check the right pane:
    • Does it show a card in the correct deck?
    • Is the card suspended (yellow “pause” icon) or in a different subdeck?

If the cards are being created but put in the wrong deck, just change their deck in the Browser (Cards → Change Deck).

4. Potential conflicts with other IO/Cloze add‑ons

You mentioned Clozet and possibly other IO add‑ons:

  • These can sometimes interfere with each other or with the one‑by‑one template logic.

Try:

  1. Go to Tools → Add‑ons.
  2. Disable other IO‑related or cloze‑related add‑ons temporarily (including Clozet).
  3. Restart Anki and repeat your IO‑one‑by‑one workflow on a test image.

If it suddenly works with other add‑ons disabled, we’ve found a conflict. You can then re‑enable add‑ons one at a time to identify the culprit.

5. If possible, can you share one test note?

If you’re comfortable:

  1. In the Browser, right‑click one of the problematic IO notes → Export Notes (include note type).
  2. Upload that small .apkg in this topic.

With that, it’s much easier to see if it’s:

  • A note‑type template issue,
  • A missing field name, or
  • A deck/scheduling issue.

If you’d like, reply with:

  • A screenshot of Tools → Manage Note Types → AnKing IO One by One → Cards… (showing the front template), and
  • What the card count says on the Add window right after you click Accept occlusions.

From there I can give you very specific “click‑by‑click” steps to fix it.

Hello,

It’s woking fine for me. Lets try updating some things:

  • Please first update the AnkiHub add-on:
  1. On your Anki main screen, go to Tools > Add-ons > Check for Updates.
  2. After the update is complete, please restart Anki.

Next, please reset and update your note types:

  1. On your Anki main screen, navigate to AnKing > AnKing Note Types.
  2. In the window that appears, first click the option to reset the notetype, and then click to check for updates. Be sure to save your changes.

Let me know if this does the trick for you!

Thank you so much! This did the trick!
