Thanks for the detailed description, that helps narrow things down.
A few things to try/check that commonly affect large-media AnkiHub decks:
1. Confirm Anki media sync is enabled
AnkiHub syncs the cards/fields, but all the images/audio still come through normal AnkiWeb media sync.
On your desktop Anki:
Tools → Preferences → Sync
- Make sure:
- Synchronize audio and images too is checked
- (Optionally) enable Periodically sync media
After turning it on, hit the sync button and let it run fully.
2. Force a fresh media sync
Sometimes Anki thinks media is done when it isn’t.
- In Anki, go to
Tools → Check Media
- Let it finish and note:
- How many files are missing
- Whether it reports any errors
- After that finishes, sync again and let it sit until “media sync complete” appears and the progress bar is gone.
If you’ve already done this, try:
Tools → Preferences → Network → On next sync, force changes in one direction
Choose Upload to AnkiWeb, sync fully, then on another device (if you have one) choose Download from AnkiWeb.
This won’t directly fix media, but it can clear some odd collection state that interferes with media sync.
3. Check for external sync services
If your Anki profile is stored inside a synced folder (e.g. Dropbox, iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Google Drive), it can interfere with media sync and corrupt the media folder.
- Make sure your Anki profile is in the default local location (Anki’s
File → Switch Profile → Open Backup dialog shows the path).
- If it is inside a sync service, move the whole
Anki2 folder out of it, then try syncing media again.
4. How long have you let media sync run?
30k media files is huge. On slow connections it can take hours (and multiple sync sessions). A few clarifications that would help:
- Are you seeing the “X files remaining” counter decrease over time?
- Does it stop at roughly the same remaining number every time?
- Are you on a spotty network / VPN / institutional firewall?
If sync is always stopping at the same point, that’s more likely a bug or limit than just “it’s still syncing”.
5. Get deck-specific info
I don’t see an existing thread about Mastering Radiology media issues on the forum, so this might be specific to your setup or a deck-side problem.
To help the AnkiHub team debug, please reply here with:
- Your Anki version (from
Help → About Anki)
- Your OS (Windows / macOS / Linux + version)
- Roughly:
- “Check Media” shows:
X missing, Y total in collection
- A screenshot of:
- The Check Media result for missing files
- The sync window while media is syncing (showing the remaining file count, if possible)
Once you share that, it will be easier to tell whether this is:
- Normal very-slow large media syncing,
- A local/media-folder issue, or
- A problem on the deck/AnkiHub side that we need to escalate.
If you prefer, you can also open a support ticket with AnkiHub and link this topic so they can check the deck’s media bundle directly.
