I have individually applied âprotect missed questionsâ tags to select anki cards, as well as selected âmissed questionsâ as a field that should always be protected on ankihub; however, with each update, these fields/screenshots/explanations continuously disappear. I read where this could be related to an add-on, and a list of my active ones are provided in the screenshot below. Any help is greatly appreciated and I hope to hear from you all soon.

Here are a few things to check and try so we can narrow down why your âmissed questionsâ content is still being overwritten.
1. Confirm how youâre protecting the field
There are two separate mechanisms:
Perâcard protection via tag
On a card, add the tag: ankihub_protect_missed_questions
Make sure this tag is on the note that actually gets synced with AnkiHub (not a different note type or a duplicate).
Global protection via AnkiHub settings
AnkiHub Addâon â Deck Settings (for the specific AnkiHub deck)
Under Protected Fields, add the exact field name youâre using for your âmissed questionsâ content (e.g. Missed Questions, Lapses Notes, etc.).
Field name must match exactly (case, spaces, punctuation).
If the field name in the note type doesnât match what you put in the Protected Fields list, updates will still overwrite it.
2. Make sure the field is on the same note type AnkiHub is updating
Sometimes users have:
A local note type with a âMissed Questionsâ field, and
An AnkiHubâlinked note type without that field, or with a slightly different name.
Check:
Open one of the affected cards â Cards... â look at the note type name.
In Browse, select that note type â Fields⌠â confirm the exact âmissed questionsâ field name.
That exact field name should be set as protected in the AnkiHub deck settings.
If needed, add the field to the synced note type and resync.
3. Rule out addâon conflicts
You mentioned other addâons. Some can modify fields during review or on sync.
Try:
Disable all nonâAnkiHub addâons:
Tools â Addâons â âToggle Enabledâ for everything except AnkiHub.
Restart Anki.
Trigger an AnkiHub update for the deck.
See if the âmissed questionsâ content is still deleted.
If the problem goes away, reâenable addâons one by one (or in small groups) until the behavior returns; that will show which one conflicts.
When you reply, it would be helpful if you could:
Paste the exact field name youâre trying to protect.
Confirm that this field name is listed under Protected Fields for the deck in AnkiHub.
Let us know if disabling all other addâons stops the issue.
From there we can give more targeted steps (e.g., screenshots of the exact AnkiHub settings to check, or how to adjust the note type).
Please make sure both Anki and the AnkiHub add-on are up to date.
For Anki, download it here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/. After downloading, simply run the file to update your application.
To update your AnkiHub add-on:
On your Anki main screen, go to Tools > Add-ons > Check for Updates.
After the update is complete, please restart Anki.
It is hard to tell if an add-on is interfering because we cannot predict conflicts given the many factors involved. If you suspect that is the issue, you can disable all other add-ons and then re-enable them one by one to pinpoint the cause. We have not received any recent reports of the issue you are facing.
I can see that you have the missed questions field protected on AnkiHub. If you lost a lot of annotations, you can always restore from a backup. Keep in mind that this will revert your entire Anki collection back to the time of that backup, including your review progress: How to Restore from Backup
I greatly appreciate your reply - everything is up to date and all note types are the same (AnkingOverhaul). Per the chatbotâs reply, I noticed that the tag applied to a card after checking the âprotect missed questions fieldâ reads âAnkiHub_Protect::Missed_Questionsâ - as such, I have also applied the recommended âankihub_protect_missed_questionsâ in case this could be a cause, although that seems unlikely since the missed questions field is globally protected. I will see if this makes a difference, but wanted to ask if this is case sensitive (e.g., since the field is âMissed Questionsâ, should the new tag instead read ankihub_protect_Missed_Questions?). I will follow this and abdo.nhâs reply.
I just wanted to follow up to see if the log I provided showed anything. I have logged out of Ankihub to avoid updates and lost fields in the meantime. Any help is greatly appreciated!
The bot is misleading here - AnkiHub_Protect::Missed_Questions is the correct format. Case does matter.
Iâm still looking into your logs. Just one question: is the Missed Questions field getting overwritten on all notes or just some specific ones? Can you post some note IDs where thatâs happening?
No problem or rush at all - I appreciate your continued help and clarification. There are specific cards where the Missed Questions field is overwritten. I can provide one here, for example:
1539170538405
Please let me know what additional information I can provide!
I assume the issue is consistent with these notes? Can you try again with the latest add-on update (released last week) and upload logs? This update should provide more details about whatâs getting overwritten.
That is correct - missed questions screenshots and explanations are removed despite globally protected fields and individual tags applied for each card (those note IDs were examples). I have updated add-ons and the log file can be found below:
The incorrect tag ankihub_protect_missed_questions is still used in ~5122 notes (it got cleared by the first sync). Was this added manually? The Missed Questions field is protected at the note type level though and the logs show zero instances of it being overwritten.
The overwritten fields are almost entirely Extra, Text, Sketchy, and First Aid. None are in your globally protected fields. Hereâs some sample notes from the logs:
If you can upload logs again using AnkiHub>Help>Upload logs and data, I can confirm how many notes actually have protection tags in the correct format.
