I’ve been having trouble with unsuspended cards not showing up the same day, even after carefully following all the steps. I’ve confirmed the following:
My new cards/day limit is not maxed ( set on 9999 new cards/day)
The cards are not buried or locked by learning steps ( I’ve tried “1 1440” and “1m” and “5m 1d” and “1”)
I’m reviewing the correct deck
The cards were properly unsuspended (yellow highlight removed)
Could there be another factor I’m missing? Like new card insertion order, tag behavior, or a deck setting that delays activation?
I’d really appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance!

I understand your frustration with unsuspended cards not appearing the same day. Based on your description, you’ve already checked several common causes, but there are a few other factors that might be affecting this behavior in Anki.
Possible reasons your unsuspended cards aren’t appearing:
Daily Review Limit: Even if your new cards/day limit is high (9999), check your “Maximum reviews/day” setting. In Anki, new cards are typically capped by the review limit. If your review limit is set to 200, and you have 190 reviews waiting, only 10 new cards will be introduced. If the review limit is reached, no new cards will show.
New Cards Ignore Review Limit: In Anki 2.1.61+, there’s a setting called “New Cards Ignore Review Limit” in the deck options. Make sure this is enabled if you want new cards to appear regardless of your review count.
Display Order: Check your deck options for “Display Order” settings. If set to “Show new cards after reviews,” your new cards won’t appear until all reviews are complete.
Parent Deck Limits: If your deck is a subdeck, the parent deck’s limits might be affecting it. Depending on which scheduler version you’re using (v1, v2, or v3), parent deck limits can override subdeck settings.
Study Priority: If you’re using the v3 scheduler, check the “New/review priority” setting. It could be set to show new cards only after reviews.
Filtered Decks: If you’re using filtered decks, they have their own behavior for showing cards.
Try these troubleshooting steps:
Check your “Maximum reviews/day” setting
Enable “New Cards Ignore Review Limit” if available
Look at your “Display Order” settings
Make sure your scheduler version isn’t causing conflicts between parent/child deck limits
If you continue having issues after checking these settings, please provide more details about your Anki version and scheduler version so I can offer more specific advice.
Let me help you understand why your unsuspended cards might not be appearing right away.
Looking at your screenshot, I notice you’re using Anki’s scheduler. There are several possible reasons why your newly unsuspended cards aren’t showing up immediately:

I see your screenshot shows you’ve already got a high new cards per day limit of 9999. Looking at your situation with unsuspended cards not appearing, there are several possible explanations:
Possible reasons your unsuspended cards aren’t appearing:
Review Limit and New Card Behavior: By default in Anki, new cards are capped by your review limit. Even with a high new card limit, if your “Maximum reviews/day” setting is reached, no new cards will show. Check your review limit in deck options.
New Cards Ignore Review Limit: This setting (found in deck options) determines whether new cards can appear even when your review limit is reached. Make sure it’s enabled if you want new cards to show regardless of reviews.
Display Order: Your deck might be configured to show new cards after reviews. If you have many reviews due, you’ll need to complete them before seeing new cards.
In v3 scheduler, parent and child deck limits are enforced
In v2 scheduler, only the clicked deck’s limits apply for reviews
Start of Day Setting: Check your preferences for when Anki’s “next day” begins. If you’ve unsuspended cards after Anki’s day has reset but before midnight, they might be queued for the next Anki day.
Quick fixes to try:
In deck options, set “New/review priority” to “Mix with reviews” or “Show before reviews”
Temporarily increase your maximum reviews/day limit
Enable “New Cards Ignore Review Limit” in deck options
Check your Anki Preferences > Review section for scheduler settings
If you continue having issues, please share which scheduler version you’re using (found in Preferences > Scheduling) and a screenshot of your deck options for more specific help.
