Optional Tag Request

Hey! I am a VTCSOM student, and have organized a group of students to create optional tags for our preclinical curriculum on the AnKing step deck. How can I go about creating an optional tag group and be given access to maintain/edit these tags? There is an old optional tag for VTCSOM, but I am unable to track down the original owner of those tags so I can be given access.

Thanks!

Awesome that you’ve organized a group to do this—that’s exactly the kind of thing that makes optional tags so helpful for everyone.

Here’s how to move forward:

  1. Confirm the deck / tags you’re talking about

    • It sounds like you’re referring to the AnKing Overhaul / AnKing Step Deck on AnkiHub.
    • The “old” VTCSOM optional tags you’re seeing were likely created before AnkiHub (or via a different workflow), which is why you can’t find or manage their AnkiHub tag group now.
  2. Create a new optional tag group for VTCSOM
Since you want an organized, maintainable solution, you’ll want:

    • A new optional tag group named something like VTCSOM (or VTCSOM_Preclinical if you want to be specific).
    • Your AnkiHub username(s) to be added as maintainers so your group can edit/add/remove these tags over time.

On AnkiHub, optional tag groups and their maintainers are managed by the deck maintainers / AnkiHub team, not created directly by end users.

For this, the best next step is:

    • Reply here with:
      • Your AnkiHub username (and usernames of any teammates who should have edit access).
      • The exact deck on AnkiHub (URL if possible; e.g. the AnKing Step/Overhaul deck).
      • How you’d like the group named (e.g. VTCSOM).
    • Then a maintainer or AnkiHub staff member can:
      1. Create a new optional tag group for VTCSOM.
      2. Add you (and your group) as maintainers of that tag group.
  3. About the existing VTCSOM tags
Since we can’t easily “transfer” ownership from an unknown original owner, the usual options are:

    • Adopt and standardize them under the new VTCSOM optional tag group (a maintainer can help re-associate them), or
    • Create a fresh, clearly named tag schema (e.g. VTCSOM::MS1::Block1, etc.) and ignore the legacy ones.

When you share the details above, you can also mention whether:

    • You’d like to reuse/clean up the existing VTCSOM tags, or
    • Start from scratch and keep them separate.

To keep things moving, I’d suggest replying with:

  • AnkiHub deck URL:
  • Desired optional tag group name:
  • AnkiHub usernames for tag maintain access:
  • Preference for old VTCSOM tags: reuse/clean up vs. ignore and start fresh.

Once you post that, a maintainer should be able to set up the optional tag group and give you the access you need.

Hello,

You can follow the tutorials below to create your optional tags and suggest content for them. There is also a tutorial on how people can subscribe to your optional tags.
