Hello,
I am having an issue getting cards to show up in my optional tags group on anki hub. I have an active subscription and have added the tags under the âAnkiHub_Optionalâ tag and used the âsuggest optional tagsâ button without success. Iâve tried resetting the optional tags group and syncing with ankihub but canât get any cards to show up on the ankihub website.
Any help would be appreciated!

Here are a few things to doubleâcheck that usually explain this behavior:
-
Make sure the tag structure is exactly right in Anki Desktop
In the Browser, your tags should look like this (note the colons):
AnkiHub_Optional::YourGroupName
Common pitfalls:
- Extra spaces anywhere (e.g.
AnkiHub_Optional :: or AnkiHub_ Optional).
- Different capitalization (
Ankihub_optional, Ankihub_Optional, etc.).
- Using hyphens/underscores instead of colons for the group level (e.g.
AnkiHub_Optional_YourGroupName).
From your screenshot it looks correct, but itâs worth clicking on the tag list in the left sidebar and confirming the exact spelling and that those notes are truly tagged at note level (Ankiâs default).
-
Confirm those notes are actually part of the AnkiHub deck
Optional tags only work for notes that:
- Belong to a deck thatâs linked to an AnkiHub shared deck and
- Are actually synced with that deck.
In the Browser:
- Select some of the tagged notes.
- Check that the deck is the one thatâs connected to the relevant AnkiHub deck (e.g. an AnKing Overhaul deck that youâve linked in the addâon).
- Make sure theyâre not suspended notes that were imported from somewhere else or in a completely different deck.
-
Force a full sync from Anki to AnkiHub
Sometimes the optional tags index on the website doesnât update until thereâs a fresh push.
Try:
- In Anki:
Tools â Add-ons â AnkiHub â Config and confirm youâre logged into the same AnkiHub account as on the website.
- Then:
Tools â AnkiHub â Sync to AnkiHub (or use the AnkiHub button) and wait for it to fully complete.
- After that finishes, refresh the AnkiHub deck page, then click Suggest optional tags again.
-
Check which deckâs optional tag group youâre viewing
On the AnkiHub website, make sure:
- Youâre on the correct deck page (the one linked to the deck where those tagged notes live).
- The optional tag group youâre viewing matches the group name (everything after
AnkiHub_Optional::) that you used in Anki.
-
If itâs still empty, weâll likely need logs/screenshots
If none of the above fixes it, please reply here with:
- A screenshot of:
- The tag tree in the Anki Browser showing
AnkiHub_Optional::âŚ
- One of the affected cardsâ info (
Card â Info) showing its tags and deck.
- Which deck on AnkiHub youâre trying to create optional tags for (link if possible).
- Your Anki version and AnkiHub addâon version.
With that info, itâll be easier to tell whether this is a configuration issue or an AnkiHub bug with optional tags.
Hello,
Just a few things to clarify:
- You created an additional tag group for the AnKing Step Deck and are now trying to add these tags to some cards, correct? You are not trying to do this for your personal deck on AnkiHub.
- Please send a screenshot of one of the cards that has the new tag.
- In Anki, go to Help > About and send us a screenshot of your Anki version.
- Please ensure you are on the latest version of Anki. You can download it here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/. After downloading, simply run the downloaded file to update your application.
- On your Anki main screen, go to Tools > Add-ons > Check for Updates. After the update is complete, please restart Anki.
- After updating Anki and the AnkiHub add-on, please try again and let me know what you see after suggesting the tags. Is there an error message?
