Overdue/new cards not showing up for review

Hello,

I’ve been using Anki and AnkiHub for a bit without issue, but now I’ve just realized that several cards that I’ve either just unsuspended or are overdue are not showing up in my deck for review. I’ve tried increasing the review limit, applying the settings to all subdecks, syncing with AnkiHub, and rebuilding the subdecks, but nothing seems to work. I moved a lot of cards out of a filtered deck recently, not sure if that has anything to do with it? Screenshots attached.

Thanks for any help or guidance :face_with_spiral_eyes: :face_with_bags_under_eyes:

Hi Skind11,

Based on your screenshots and description, it looks like you’re experiencing an issue with cards not appearing for review despite being due. Let me help you troubleshoot this.

Possible Causes and Solutions:

  1. Recent Filtered Deck Usage
You mentioned moving cards out of a filtered deck recently. This could be related to your issue. When cards are returned from a filtered deck to their original deck, their scheduling can sometimes be affected.

  2. Daily Limits
I notice in your screenshots that your daily limits are set to 999 new cards and 9999 reviews, so limits shouldn’t be the problem.

  3. Sorting Order
The way Anki prioritizes overdue cards can affect what you see. From your screenshot, your review sort order is set to “Due date, then random” which is typically recommended.

Suggestions to Fix:

  1. Check Card Status in Browser

    • Open the Browser
    • Search for is:due to see all due cards
    • Check if these cards appear in this search but not in your deck
  2. Rebuild Database

    • From the Tools menu, select “Check Database”
    • This can help resolve scheduling inconsistencies
  3. Try a Custom Study Session

    • Create a filtered deck with the search term is:due
    • This will gather all due cards regardless of their current status
    • Study them in this filtered deck to reset their scheduling
  4. Falling Behind Recovery
If you have a large backlog of cards, Anki might be prioritizing older overdue cards first. You could try a catching up strategy:

    • Create a filtered deck for recently due cards: is:due prop:due>-7
    • Create another filtered deck for older overdue cards: is:due prop:due<=-7
    • This way you can manage both your regular reviews and backlog separately

Let me know if any of these suggestions help resolve your issue!

Okay, did suggestion #2 of checking the database and that seemed to fix it. Some of the cards ended up in a separate deck called “Anking” instead of “Anking Note Types” but I just moved them over to the new deck. Will leave this up in case it helps anyone else : )

I’ll search for more information on this issue to provide a helpful response.

Hi Skind11,

I’m glad to hear that checking the database fixed your issue! This is a good reminder of how effective the “Check Database” tool can be for resolving scheduling and card placement issues in Anki.

What Happened:

When cards are moved between decks or returned from filtered decks, sometimes they can end up in unexpected places. The database check helps Anki reorganize and fix any inconsistencies in the database that might be causing these issues.

For Anyone Else Experiencing Similar Issues:

  1. Check Database: Tools > Check Database is often the first troubleshooting step for many Anki issues
  2. Check Card Locations: After database maintenance, verify that your cards are in the correct decks
  3. Move Cards if Needed: You can select and move cards in the browser if they’ve ended up in the wrong deck

About Home Decks in AnkiHub:

If you frequently find cards moving to unexpected decks, you might want to check your “home deck” settings in AnkiHub, which determines where new cards and updates are placed.

Thanks for sharing your solution - it will definitely help others who encounter similar issues!
