Smart Search missing cards

Hi! I’m having some issues with smart search.

Usually, I can upload lecture notes into the ā€œfilesā€ tab and smart search extensively captures cards. Today, I noticed that I was only getting about 30 cards per lecture (I usually get anywhere from 100-200 related cards) and when I manually checked, there were many related cards that the tool missed. In addition, I have re-uploaded files that I have uploaded in the past and yielded 100+ cards for and I’m only getting around 30 cards this time. I was wondering if there might be a fix for this.

Thank you!

Hi Dinara,

Thanks for reporting this issue with Smart Search! It sounds like you’re experiencing fewer card results than expected when uploading lecture notes to the ā€œfilesā€ tab.

Based on what we know about Smart Search, there could be a few possible explanations:

  1. AI Model Updates: The AI models powering Smart Search are regularly updated, which might affect how content is matched to cards.

  2. Usage Limits: AnkiHub Premium has monthly Smart Search limitations (currently 3,750,000 words of search input). If you’ve been using Smart Search extensively, you might be approaching these limits.

  3. Content Format: The format of your lecture notes or how the content is structured might affect matching results.

To troubleshoot this issue, you could try:

  • Restarting Anki: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary issues
  • Checking File Format: Ensure your files are in a format that Smart Search can properly analyze
  • Breaking Down Larger Files: Try uploading smaller sections of your notes to see if that improves results

If the problem persists, I’d recommend:

  1. Taking screenshots of the issue to help the support team understand exactly what’s happening
  2. Contacting support directly at support@ankihub.net with details about the specific files and decks you’re using

Have you noticed any patterns in what types of content or cards are being missed by Smart Search?

Hello,

We recently adjusted the smart search parameters to not provide too many false positives. What % relevance do you have smart search set at?

You can move the slider to provide a broader range, this way you’ll get the results you got before.

More relevant → less cards

Less relevant → more cards

The default is at 50%

Even when I set it to 0%, I will get somewhere in the range of 17-30 cards though. Is that normal?

Can you provide the file? I can test it on my end and see if this is possibly a bug.
