Struggling to import Anking new media from the recent update

The recent update of anking deck brought some nice media files that i wanted to sync into my deck but seems like it wont sync into my deck even after trying to force sync it/reset all local changes.

When i view on ankihub the notes that suppose to have the update i can see them, yet my deck dont have those changes (there isnt even a missing file icon), also at the anking image tag some of the new media tags are shown (as shown in the image)

anyone experienced that issue an can help?

Thanks for all the detail and the screenshot — that helps narrow it down.

New media from AnkiHub updates behaves a bit differently from text changes, and a few things can block it from appearing even when the note looks correct on AnkiHub.

Try these steps in order (on desktop Anki):

1. Make sure AnkiHub finished syncing media

  1. In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config and confirm:
    • Enable media sync (or similar wording) is enabled.
  2. Click the AnkiHub Sync button.
  3. Wait until the sync finishes without errors.
    • If you see any red error text, grab a screenshot and share it in the thread.

AnkiHub’s media sync is separate from normal AnkiWeb sync, so even if your notes are up‑to‑date, the actual image files might not have downloaded yet.

2. Check whether the images exist on your computer

Pick one note that should have a new image (for example, the one in your screenshot):

  1. On AnkiHub (web), open that note and:
    • Right‑click the new image → Copy image address or note the filename if visible.
  2. In desktop Anki, go to Tools → Check Media and let it run.
    • See if that filename shows up under:
      • “Missing files” → then the card references the image but it’s not stored locally.
      • “Unused files” → then the file is present in your media folder but maybe not referenced as expected.
  3. If it’s listed as missing, that confirms the media never downloaded from AnkiHub.

If you’re not sure what you’re seeing in Check Media, you can paste the report output into your forum reply.

3. Confirm you’re on the correct deck + note type

Because you’re using the AnKing Overhaul / MCAT tags:

  1. In the Browser, make sure you’re looking at:
    • The exact same deck and note type AnkiHub shows for that note (e.g. AnKing Step 1 vX).
  2. Confirm there are no local custom note types/copies of the AnKing note type that might not be subscribed to AnkiHub.
    • If you have duplicates (e.g. AnKing-v11 (copy)), the note that’s actually updated on AnkiHub might not match the one you’re viewing locally.

4. Try a true reset from AnkiHub’s side (cards only)

You mentioned “reset all local changes,” but just to be sure you did the full process:

  1. In the Browser, select the affected deck’s notes.
  2. AnkiHub → Reset Local Changes for Selected Notes.
  3. Then click AnkiHub Sync again.

This only affects note content; it shouldn’t fix missing media by itself, but it ensures you’re fully aligned with what’s on AnkiHub before troubleshooting media further.

5. Check AnkiWeb sync for media

While AnkiHub syncs deck content/media from the shared deck, your local collection’s media also travels via AnkiWeb:

  1. After confirming AnkiHub sync is complete, click Anki’s normal sync button (top right).
  2. Let it fully sync with AnkiWeb.
  3. If you’re using a second device, also sync that device and see whether the image appears there.

If it’s still not working

Please reply in your topic with:

  • A screenshot of:
    • Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config (media‑related settings).
    • The Check Media report section relevant to one of the missing images.
  • Whether you:
    • See those new images when reviewing on a different computer or device, if you have one.
    • Have any error messages during AnkiHub sync.

Once you share that, we can tell whether this is:

  • A local media‑sync issue,
  • A note-type / wrong deck issue, or
  • A possible bug that needs to be escalated to the AnkiHub devs.

Hello,

That is a quick fix! The issue is that you have the text and extra fields protected, which is why you aren’t receiving any updates.

Please follow this tutorial to unprotect these fields [How to Manage Protected Fields], and then you can reset your local changes again [How to Reset Local Changes]. This should resolve the issue.

Let me know if you need help with anything else.

well i do have some protected fields, but i dont think so that the cards that supposed to be updated are protected.
i checked in anki browse section and they dont seem to be protected, but at ankihub i have the following settings

i dont think it interferes with the cards as they dont contain the tag that protects them from syncing, unless i understand something wrong

It actually does interfere because your current settings protect the Text and Extra fields for every card, and the new illustrations are placed in the Extra field. Additionally, any actual updates to the card content will be made in the Text and Extra fields. Just uncheck those boxes, save your settings, and then reset your local changes again. This should resolve the issue.

The protected tags are only for your personal tags, so they don’t get uploaded if you make any suggestions to the deck and for them to not get overwritten when a card receives an update
