Sync overwrote changes?

Hi,

this update removed ALL of my reviews for today. Like, made it so they didn’t happen. My deck was in the exact state it was before I did my day’s reviews and learning cards. I reverted to a backup, but that backup was made halfway through my review session and I still have to do half the session again. some edits were lost. some responses are going to affect or invalidate interval selection.

Can you please help me figure out what happened, and maybe fix this???

Hi @j.a.woodman16

We did not push an update to AnkiHub for this maintenance, this maintenance was for the servers (so its not likely that the loss of progress is related to AnkiHub).

Did you see this pop-up before you lost your progress?

If so, that could be the culprit. Clicking download from ankiweb often causes this to occur. You will need to click upload to ankiweb to make sure your reviews are not overwritten (It’s an Ankiweb thing, not AnkiHub related)

I did not see the upload/download dialogue box.
Ankihub synced per usual, but appeared to update thousands of cards.
I am actually a very experienced anki user, but even I am stumped with this issue.

The “### cards updated” was about 3 thousand, instead of the usual few dozen or so. I can send any logs or backups or whatever you need to analyze. I do have backups from post-update showing the progress loss, as well as backups from earlier this morning showing deck state prior to review and prior to update. I can also send the backup from halfway into my review session if it would help.

Just to confirm, your reviews got deleted and some edits correct?

AnkiHub cannot alter reviews. But AnkiHub can overwrite edits in fields if they are not protected

Ya man. Exactly what you confirmed. All of my reviews from this morning were reverted to card state from prior to review session, and all the edits I made were nullified. And I synced immediately after review. I only review on my iPad, so maybe something with ankimobile code? I also have an NMR card that just will not display the cloze answer, or the extras field.

It’s baffling.
I reverted to the backup and just redid those reviews.
Let me know if you want me to send any logs or backup files.

Please use AnkiHub > Help > Upload logs and data and let us know the filename shown.

Thank you, I am doing these steps now. The same exact thing happened again today, BTW. I do my treadmill Anki review session on the iPad, then I come home to sync on my MacBook to edit cards and whatnot. Syncing on the Mac gave NO DIALOGUE to either upload to or download from AnkiWeb, simply an AnkiHub update noting that ~500 Anking cards were updated. I created a backup on my iPad immediately after finishing my reviews today, so I can show the “correct” state of my deck as it appears after my review session, but before syncing and subsequent ankihub update. I have 5 relevant backup files, and I will describe what’s happening with as much detail as possible when I submit the ankihub help ticket.

@j.a.woodman16 I moved your posts to a separate thread here.

The logs do show a full AnkiWeb sync was done yesterday. It’s really weird that you didn’t get prompted to choose between Upload/Download. I’ll look into this more.
