Tag problem in AnKing dec

Hello,

I updated to the Step 1 / Step 2 only version (update 25) a while ago to use the “only Step 1” and “only Step 2” features. However, after syncing, I noticed that the number of tags is extremely low, which is clearly not the correct total.

Every time I sync, sometimes the number increases slightly, and sometimes it does not change at all. This has been happening for almost a month, and the issue is still not resolved.

The same problem is affecting the High Yield / Low Yield tags. They currently show around 3000 cards, while before the update they were more than 25,000 cards. I can’t access them properly, and I’m also unable to suspend or use them effectively.

Also, when I try searching in the Browser using the tags, I still get the same very low numbers.

I would really appreciate your help because this situation is very frustrating. Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed description and screenshots—that helps narrow this down.

A few things to check/try, since the behavior you describe usually comes from filters or partial installs, not from AnkiHub “losing” tags:

1. Make sure you’re looking at all cards (no filters)

In the Browser:

  1. At the top left, click the deck dropdown and choose “Whole Collection”.
  2. At the top right, clear anything in the Search bar.
  3. Make sure the search reads just:
    tag:"::AnKing::"          (or e.g. tag:"::AnKing::Step1::" etc.)

    and not something like is:new / is:due / is:suspended added on.

Filters like is:new, prop:due, or a specific deck can massively reduce the tag counts you see.

2. Confirm you installed the correct deck + all required subdecks

With the Step 1 / Step 2 only (Update 25) option, many cards are excluded by design. If you previously had the full AnKing Overhaul (with all systems + extra content) and now have a Step-only deck, the total number of cards under tags like High_Yield / Low_Yield will be much lower.

Please check:

  1. In the Decks screen, how many total cards are in your AnKing deck now?
  2. Compare that to the numbers from the official Update 25 post (for the version you chose). If your counts are close, the “missing” cards may simply be cards that are not part of the Step-only version.

If you actually want all the previous content back, you might need to:

  • Export / back up your current Anki collection (File → Export → Anki Collection), then
  • Import the full AnKing deck again and re‑link it to AnkiHub.

3. Check if tags are hidden under a nested structure

In the left tag panel, expand all tag trees:

  • Right‑click in the tags panel → Expand All (or expand the AnKing / AnKingOverhaul parent tag manually).
  • Some people think tags are “gone” when they are just nested one level deeper (for example, ::AnKing::Step1::HighYield vs HighYield).

If you can, could you post a zoomed‑in screenshot of the tag tree where HighYield / LowYield live, with everything expanded?

4. Force a full sync + check Anki version/add‑ons

Sometimes AnkiHub syncing changes don’t fully apply when there are sync conflicts or outdated Anki/add‑ons.

Please try:

  1. Backup: File → Export → Anki Collection (very important).
  2. Tools → Check Database in Anki.
  3. Fully close and reopen Anki.
  4. Perform an AnkiHub sync (from the AnkiHub add‑on button).
  5. Then do a normal Anki sync and choose Upload to AnkiWeb if asked which direction (after your backup is made).

Also confirm:

  • Your Anki version (Help → About) – Update 23+ decks are intended for recent Anki versions.
  • Temporarily disable non‑essential add‑ons (except AnkiHub) and restart to see if tag counts change.

5. Why numbers increase slowly after each sync

This pattern usually means AnkiHub is progressively applying changes (e.g., re‑tagging or downloading sections of the deck), often slowed down by:

  • Intermittent connection
  • Sync conflicts
  • Local changes on your side (renamed/moved tags or cards)

After doing Check Database and a clean AnkiHub sync, the tag counts should stabilize. If they continue to creep up slowly with each sync for days, that’s abnormal and worth investigating with logs.

6. If possible, share these details so we can be more specific

Reply with:

  1. Your Anki version.
  2. Your AnkiHub AnKing deck name (e.g., “AnKing Overhaul for Step 1 & Step 2 v12, Update 25, Step-only”).
  3. The exact browser search you’re using (copy the text from the Search bar).
  4. A screenshot of:
    • The Decks screen showing total card count for your AnKing deck.
    • The Browser with Whole Collection selected and tag:"HighYield" (or your exact tag path) in the search bar.

With that, we can tell whether:

  • The lower numbers are expected for the Step-only deck, or
  • Something is actually broken with your tags/AnkiHub sync and walk you through a more targeted fix.

Hello,

It looks like you are indeed missing cards in those tags. Please try the steps in this tutorial to see if the card count increases: How to Reset Local Changes
