Very few cards showing up on Anking step deck HY tags

I am trying to see the cards in the HY tags (whether HY, relatively HY, lower yield, or low yield). However, when I click on the tags in the browse section, there are much much fewer cards than there used to be (11 across all the ā€œyieldā€ tags).

I have tried syncing Ankihub, but that did not change anything.

I did see the AI bot on another discussion saying that resetting all local changes to the deck might fix it. However, if I do that I know I will lose all the extra hints or paragraphs I’ve typed into the cards. Is there any other way to fix this?

This is almost certainly a tag change in the newer AnKing Step deck versions, not a problem with your local collection.

From the official article ā€œWhat is the High Yield tag and how should I use it?ā€, the ^HighYield structure you’re looking at (1-HighYield, 2-RelativelyHighYield, etc.) is no longer applied to all the cards it used to be in older versions. The team pruned and reorganized those tags, so when you update to the latest AnKing Step deck via AnkiHub, you’ll see far fewer cards in those specific yield sub‑tags. That’s expected behavior.

So:

  • Your cards are not missing, they just don’t carry those particular HY tags anymore.
  • Syncing or ā€œReset all local changesā€ will not bring back the old tag distribution; it would only overwrite your edits, which you rightly want to avoid.
  • Your custom hints/paragraphs are safe as long as you don’t reset local changes or replace your notes from another profile/export.

What you can do instead

  1. Read how HY is intended to work now:
→ What is the ā€œHigh Yieldā€ tag and how should I use it?

  2. If you prefer the older, denser HY tagging, the only way to truly get that back is:

    • Import an older backup of the deck (from before the change) into a separate profile just to inspect which cards were tagged, then
    • Manually re‑tag the cards you care about in your current profile (for example with a custom tag like ::MyHighYield) so you don’t have to reset the whole deck.
  3. For quickly finding ā€œimportantā€ Step cards now, consider:

    • Using the current tag:#AK_Step1_v12::#Low/HighYield structure described in the wiki.
    • Combining tags in the Browser (e.g. tag:#AK_Step1_v12::#HighYield tag:#CardType::#Cloze) to focus on what’s highest yield for you.

If you like, reply with:

  • Your current Step deck version (shown in the deck name or in AnkiHub), and
  • An example card you remember used to have an HY tag but doesn’t now,

and I can suggest an exact search/tagging workflow so you don’t lose any of your custom edits.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

It looks like you may be using an older tag that is out of date. You might try the current tag for the deck:

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.
