I believe this has to do something with the shortcuts by the Anking MCAT since as soon as the app loads and the anking decks update it shuts down.

Based on the information provided, it sounds like you’re experiencing an issue where Anki shuts down automatically after updating to a version optimized for Apple Silicon, particularly when the AnKing MCAT decks are updating.
This appears to be an add-on conflict issue. When you experience Anki crashing or shutting down unexpectedly, it’s often related to add-on compatibility problems. Here’s what I recommend:
Troubleshooting Steps:
-
Start Anki in Safe Mode:
- Close Anki completely
- Restart Anki while holding down the Shift key
- This temporarily disables all add-ons and will help determine if an add-on is causing the crash
-
Update Add-ons Individually:
- While in safe mode, go to Tools → Add-ons → Check for Updates
- After updating, restart Anki normally
-
Identify Problematic Add-ons:
If Anki works fine in safe mode but crashes in normal mode:- Disable half of your add-ons
- Test Anki
- Continue narrowing down which add-on(s) cause the crash
-
Check for Known Issues:
- Some add-ons might not be fully compatible with the latest Anki version or Apple Silicon
- The AnKing MCAT shortcuts might be conflicting with your updated Anki version
For more detailed help, you might want to check the official Anki troubleshooting guide or the AnKing recommended add-ons list to ensure you’re using compatible add-ons.
Would you like me to help you troubleshoot further or provide more specific guidance?
Hello,
I would be happy to help.
I’m not sure which shortcuts you’re referring to, though I haven’t heard any reports of others having issues (FWIW I’m also on the current version of Anki and have the same deck installed, without issue) but let’s try a couple of things:
First, can you try installing 25.02 and see if that works?
Second, you might try loading Anki in Safe Mode, in order to make sure that you don’t have any add-ons that might be conflicting. This can be done by closing Anki, then holding down the Shift key while starting Anki.
I would give either, or both, of these a shot, let me know how you fare, and we can go from there.
