Iāve had this deck downloaded for months on my computer. Everything is synced so itās not like something is going on in the background. Iām just trying to figure out the problem here.
All of my cards still have images (from what I can tell).
It looks like your post currently only contains the template text for the Support category and doesnāt yet describe your actual problem with missing media.
To help with your issue (āthousands of missing filesā when you click Tools ā Check Media), please reply in that topic with:
What deck(s) this is happening with
Are you using an AnkiHub-synced deck? If so, which one?
What exactly you see
A screenshot of the Check Media window (including the āMissing filesā section).
Roughly how many media files are reported missing?
Your setup
Anki version
AnkiHub add-on version (from Tools ā Add-ons ā AnkiHub)
Operating system (Windows/Mac/Linux)
What youāve already tried (if anything)
Did you try AnkiHub ā Download media for the deck?
Did you recently delete or move any collection or media folders manually?
In general, for AnkiHub decks and missing media, weāll likely walk through:
Confirming that the deck is properly linked to AnkiHub (AnkiHub ā Decks and check the status).
Running AnkiHub ā Download media for that deck and then running Tools ā Check Media again.
Checking whether the āmissingā files are really needed by your current cards or are legacy/unreferenced names.
Once you add the details and a screenshot to your topic, we can give you concrete next steps tailored to your collection.
Thanks for confirming that the deck is linked in AnkiHub ā Decks.
A few targeted things to check next:
1. Run AnkiHubās own media download
Even if the deck is linked, some media might not have been pulled down locally.
In Anki, go to AnkiHub ā Decks.
Select your AnKing Step Deck.
Click Download media (or Sync now if thatās what you see).
Let it fully finish.
Then go to Tools ā Check Media again and see if the āMissing filesā count changes.
2. See what is missing
In the Check Media window:
Scroll the Missing files list and look at a few filenames.
Are they things like anki-templateā¦, latex-ā¦, or very old-style names, or do they look like real AnKing images (e.g. AnKing-overview-ā¦png, OSCE pictures, etc.)?
Many users see thousands of āmissingā files that are:
Leftover from very old templates, or
From notes that no longer exist,
Or from media references that were cleaned up in later AnKing/AnkiHub updates.
Those will not break your cards even if Anki still lists them.
3. Spot-check actual cards
To be sure nothing important is missing:
Pick 10ā20 cards across different AnKing subdecks (especially image-heavy ones like pathology, micro, pharm).
Review them in both Front and Back.
Confirm that images, sounds, and diagrams are all showing as expected (no blank squares or āmissing fileā text).
If everything looks normal, itās very likely that:
The vast majority of the āmissing filesā are no longer used by your current collection, and
The warning from Check Media is mostly cosmetic.
4. If lots of real AnKing images are missing
If, during your spot-check, you do see broken images:
Confirm that all media options are checked under:
AnkiHub ā Settings ā Media (or the media-related tab).
Run AnkiHub ā Download media again.
After that, do a normal Anki sync (top-right sync button).
Re-run Tools ā Check Media.
5. What would help us help you more
If problems persist, please reply with:
A screenshot of the āMissing filesā section of Check Media showing several of the filenames.
Rough count of missing files (e.g., āabout 7,000ā).
Your Anki version and AnkiHub add-on version.
From there we can tell you whether these are just legacy/unused names (safe to ignore) or if thereās a real media-sync problem that we need to troubleshoot further.
The media sync will go from: āIdleā to āDownloadingā from time to time. Maybe thatās just checking things, but yes, I do need help on this whenever someone has a chance this week. Thanks!
It is normal for media to sync on occasion. Similarly, due to a quirk of how AnkiWeb and AnkiHub account for media it is also normal to have a non-zero amount of āmissing filesā listed. Essentially, everyone has a non-zero value there even if you are not missing any media.
If your cards are not displaying appropriately, thatās a separate issue. If thatās the case, the more context you can share the easier it may be to be of help. Screenshots are ideal, if you can, just so I can see what youāre seeing
I am able to see the screenshots, thank you for including them.
From what I can see, though, they appear only to show the main screen of Anki, which doesnāt confer much info that Iām able to use, unfortunately.
I donāt see anything from the screenshots you shared to suggest that there is any issue, really. But, if your cards are not displaying appropriately thatās another issue and Iād be happy to take a look if youād like to include screenshots of that, were it to be happening.
the supposed missing files when I click ācheck mediaā. I dināt know what I could do to fix this (if possible) - maybe Iām just trying to find a problem that doesnāt need fixing.
I believe we touched on that in one of our earlier exchanges, though please let me know if you have any specific questions with which we can be of help. As long as your cards are displaying appropriately, the āmissing mediaā number can be safely ignored.
Happy to help clear things up otherwise however I might be able.
