I have the core membership and when I try to subscribe to a paid deck it says “You’ll need to upgrade your membership to Core or Premium to sync this deck on Anki Desktop.” and then once I subscribe the lock icon is still there and says accessing this needs a membership and when I try to sync it on Anki it says “Oh no! The action you are trying to perform requires an active membership.”

This usually happens when AnkiHub thinks your account doesn’t have Core, even though you’ve paid. A few things to check/try:
-
Confirm you’re logged into the same AnkiHub account
- On the AnkiHub web (top right avatar → Profile), make sure the email/username is the one with the Core membership.
- In Anki Desktop → Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config, check the email shown there matches the same AnkiHub account.
-
Force AnkiHub to refresh your membership
- In Anki Desktop:
- Go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config.
- Click “Log out” (if available), restart Anki, then log back into AnkiHub from the add-on.
- Back on the web, fully log out of AnkiHub, then log back in and try subscribing to the deck again.
- In Anki Desktop:
-
Check your subscription status on the web
- Go to your Billing / Membership page on AnkiHub (Account → Billing or Membership).
- Confirm it shows Core – Active (not “canceled” or “expired”).
-
Try a clean resubscribe
- On the deck page on AnkiHub:
- Unsubscribe from the deck (if it lets you).
- Refresh the page.
- Subscribe again, then sync Anki.
- On the deck page on AnkiHub:
If after these steps you still see:
- “You’ll need to upgrade your membership…” on the web, and/or
- “Oh no! The action you are trying to perform requires an active membership.” in Anki
then this is almost certainly an account/membership flagging issue on AnkiHub’s side that only staff can fix.
Since you’re already here in this topic, I’d recommend:
- Reply with:
- A screenshot of your Membership/Billing page showing Core – Active (hide any sensitive billing details).
- A screenshot of the top-right account email/username on the web.
- A screenshot of the AnkiHub add-on config in Anki showing the logged-in account.
- Tag the team with
@AnkiHubTeamso they can manually check your membership and link it to the deck subscription.
There’s no sign you’re doing anything wrong—this looks like a membership recognition bug that support will need to fix on your account.
