Hey Folks,
For the Anking step deck what are:
Recommended addons? Addons we should not use? Total number of cards the step deck should have? I tried looking for an up to date video but could not find one here.
Thanks again,
SP

Here are the main resources and recommendations for using the AnKing Step Deck (V12) on AnkiHub and your specific questions:
The most current, official info is here:
Introduction to the AnKing Step Deck (V12)

AnKing Step Deck FAQs

Those replace older YouTube videos for the AnkiHub version of the deck, so start there.
In general, you want:
Essential:
AnkiHub Add-on (required)
For syncing updates with the Step Deck:

AnKing Overhaul / AnKing note-type & styling tools
Many users already have this from the AnKing Overhaul. It improves tags, fields, and card styling that the Step Deck is built around. If youâre on standard AnKing setups, you should be fine.
Commonly helpful (but optional):
When in doubt, start with just:
Anything that:

The AnKing Step Deck relies on specific fields, tags, and scheduling assumptions. Add-ons that change those can:
If youâre unsure about a specific add-on, reply here with its name (not code) and we can tell you if itâs known to play nicely with the Step Deck.
For precise, current numbers, check the official wiki post (they change as updates roll out):

Introduction to the Step Deck (V12)
Often includes current card counts or links to where theyâre listed.
Because the deck is updated via AnkiHub (cards added/retired/fixed), the exact total can change slightly over time, so your count may not exactly match someone elseâs older screenshot or video.
If you want to verify your own number:
If your total is in the same general range as the numbers mentioned in the Introduction or Updates posts, youâre fine.
Even though you couldnât find a fully up-to-date specific video for the AnkiHub version:
If youâd like, list the add-ons youâre currently using, and I can quickly flag which are safe with the Step Deck and which to reconsider.
Hello,
I would be happy to help. ![]()
There are so so many add-ons out there, and recommendations can vary widely based on a few factors. But, a good place to start might be the âfavorite add-onsâ listed over at https://www.theanking.com/best-add-ons
At the very least that should be a good jumping-off point to take a look around and see whatâs available and what might be of use or of interest for you
From there, you can always confirm the number of notes in any given AnkiHub deck from the main page of AnkiHub.net:
You might keep in mind that this lists the number of notes, rather than cards (the two are related, but in most cases the numbers wonât be identical). But, this should allow you to reference how many notes should be present in the AnKing Step deck or any others
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if thereâs anything else I can help with. ![]()
Thanks Brian! I should be good to download most addons eh (I guess if there is a problem it will pop up when I open the app)? Is there a place where folks are chatting about what 3rd party resources they are using (wondering if bootcamp is better than BnB since each card has a nice video reference to bootcamp but I donât see one for BnB)?
Thanks again boss,
SP
Yeah, for the most part thatâs true. There are, of course, tons and tons of add-ons out there and not all of them are well-maintained so it is possible that youâll find an add-on or two that is out of date and no longer compatible. But, for the most part the popular add-ons are usually well maintained and properly updated and you should be fine
Worst-case scenario you get an error message and find out a particular add-on is no longer supported and you can just disable or delete it. No harm done, ultimately
As a general rule, Reddit is the go-to spot for discussions like this. Reddit can be a trove of wealth of wisdom, though of course like anything youâll also find a divergence of opinions on pretty much anything under the Sun as well.
I tend to use BnB and havenât really used Bootcamp, though I have classmates that prefer Bootcamp to BnB and I think you can do perfectly well with either, ultimately. Iâm not sure I can confidently say that one is better than the other, as theyâre both at least serviceable and widely considered good, and most of it will come down to your own study habits and preparation quality at the end of the day, regardless of which resource you opt to make use of.
BnB for sure has videos, and whatnot. Iâm less familiar with Bootcamp, personally, so Iâm not sure I can give a full-throated side-by-side for each or step-by-step comparison, though Iâm sure with a little homework you can find reason enough to opt for one or the other and all roads leads to Rome, eventually. ![]()
If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out. Happy to be of help however I can. ![]()
That makes sense. What was the quickest way you identify which BnB video to watch for your in house lectures, and then the corresponding cards?
Thanks,
SP
For the most part, the BnB videos are titled by subject and so I just tack either the subject I want to learn, or the one that most closely aligns with the material that is being covered in class, etc.
From there, if you have access to the Premium features there is also SmartSearch which can return tag results for some resources:
No magic to it, ultimately; just searching and finding what seems like it would be of use and then onward and upward from there. ![]()
