It sounds like AnkiHub tried to apply the shared AnKing Step Deck to a profile that already had a local copy of the step deck, and the two didn’t line up correctly.
A few quick things to check/try:
-
Confirm which deck is from AnkiHub
- In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config and make sure you’re logged into the correct AnkiHub account.
- In the browser, search for a note that you know should be in the AnkiHub Step Deck and look at the AnkiHub note ID field (if visible). If some cards don’t have an AnkiHub ID, they’re likely from your old/local deck.
-
Check for duplicate or mismatched decks
- In the main deck list, see if you now have:
- One Step Deck that’s linked to AnkiHub, and
- Another “old” step deck (or subdeck) that is not linked.
- If so, the sync probably created a new proper AnkiHub deck instead of merging cleanly with your existing one.
- In the main deck list, see if you now have:
-
Decide which deck to keep
-
If the new deck (the one linked to AnkiHub) has the correct structure and content, the simplest path is usually:
- Move any custom cards you care about from the old deck into a separate personal deck.
- Then suspend / delete the old, non–AnkiHub Step Deck to avoid confusion and duplicates.
-
If the old deck has lots of progress you don’t want to lose, let me know:
- Whether you changed note types, fields, or deck names compared to the original AnKing Step Deck.
- Roughly when you subscribed to the Step Deck on AnkiHub.
With that info we can see if you can safely map your existing notes to AnkiHub or if it’s better to start fresh and just preserve stats in a custom way (e.g., by tagging or moving select cards).

Sync order
- After making changes:
- Anki → Sync (green arrows).
- Then in Anki, go to AnkiHub → Sync with AnkiHub.
- Make sure there are no sync errors in the AnkiHub add-on window.
- After making changes:
To help you more precisely, please reply with:
- A screenshot or description of your deck list showing the Step Deck(s).
- Whether you see two versions of the deck or just one that’s “messed up.”
- Any error messages you got from the AnkiHub add-on when you synced.
From there I can give you exact steps (e.g., which deck to keep, which to delete, and how to avoid this in the future).
Hello,
I would be happy to help. Could you provide a few more details about the issue you are facing? Did you already have the v12 version of the Anki step deck downloaded, or were you using an older version like v11? Please send over any additional details and screenshots of the problem.
Regardless of the specific issue, if you have the AnkiHub add-on installed and are logged into your account, resetting local changes usually resolves most sync errors. You can find instructions on how to do that here: How to Reset Local Changes
