Card Count Discrepancy

This is a common question with AnKing decks! The difference between the numbers you’re seeing is due to how Anki counts notes versus cards:

  • When clicking on your deck, you see 31k+ cards in the first screenshot
  • The browser shows different counts in the second screenshot

This is normal and explained by the difference between notes and cards in Anki:

  • One note can contain multiple cards (using cloze deletions or card templates)
  • The AnKing deck has approximately 28,800 notes, but this translates to around 35,000 cards
  • Your specific count may vary depending on which parts of the deck you’ve subscribed to

New Cards Appearing Without Unlocking

Regarding new cards showing up even though you didn’t unlock any:

  1. Daily Limits: By default, Anki resets your new card limit each day. If you didn’t study all available new cards yesterday, they’ll show up today (along with today’s new cards).

  2. Scheduler Behavior: Anki’s daily limits work in a way that new cards don’t accumulate if you miss a day - they reset to your daily limit.

  3. Card Queue: The numbers at the bottom of your screen (6 + 9 + 59) represent new cards (blue), cards in learning (orange), and cards to review (green).

Suggestions:

  • Check your deck options settings for “New cards/day” to see how many new cards Anki is set to show you daily
  • If you want to temporarily stop new cards, you can set the new cards/day to 0
  • To verify exactly which cards are “new,” you can use the browser and filter by “is:new” in your specific deck
