For AnkiHub, whatās the best way to have it on two computers⦠Iām wondering if I should just login and log out of the same account vs use a separate account on one computer but never sync from that one? Not sure if option 1 will actually work or not.
@jakub.f can you shed any light on it? @developers do any of you have thoughts?
Why would you need a separate account? You can be logged in on two Anki profiles (on the same or two different computers) with the same account.
The best option is probably to login using the same AnkiHub account on both computers, but only sync from one. This can be achieved by setting the Auto Sync with AnkiHub option to Never on one computer.
Then the updates you get from AnkiHub get shared between the computers by the AnkiWeb sync.
The reason for not syncing from both computers is to prevent some problems with duplicate cards for new notes which can occur with this setup. The problem was reported here for example:
I could reproduce the problem myself as well.
It would be probably best if you could just be logged in on two computers with the same AnkiHub account and could sync from both of them without problems. However preventing these problems with duplicate cards would likely require some larger changes.
Yes. With āAnkiHub appā you mean the web app? Making suggestions from the web app will work well. You can also make suggestions using Anki Desktop from both computers. Although there could be some issues on the second computer, if the notes are not up-to-date. You might for example get a āNo changes. Try syncing with AnkiHub first.ā tooltip, when you try to revert a change. This shouldnāt happen very often though.
I use AnkiHub with two computers and it works fine
On my Macbook, I create a suggestion but make sure to sync AnkiHub and AnkiWeb
Then on my PC ā i first sync with Ankiweb + AnkiHub ā everything works normal
Basically if you want to use a computer, just make sure to sync with ankiweb and ankihub before and after doing anything to make sure nothing gets overwritten or messed up.
Can confirm the duplicate cards problem has not returned for me since I started syncing to AnkiHub with only one computer. I think the issue stemmed from being signed into and syncing with the same AnkiHub account on both my laptop and desktop. After deleting duplicates and resetting local changes to fix it the second time, I have only been syncing with AnkiHub on my desktop and then using AnkiMobile on iPhone for flashcards on the go. I have been nervous to use Anki on my laptop in fear that the duplicate cards problem would happen again, but I will try setting the Auto Sync with AnkiHub option to Never as suggested and see how that goes.
@jakub.f when I login to AnkiHub on the second computer, it wonāt even let me āview on AnkiHubā because I havenāt synced the decks. Am I safe to sync them onceā¦?
There are double decks because I guess we still havenāt fixed that issue for meā¦
