Empty Cards - How to Fix Them

Hi @ebassey281,

I see you have blank cards appearing in your deck. This is a common issue in Anki, especially when using cloze deletion cards. Based on the screenshot you shared, it looks like you have cards with missing fields or cloze deletions.

How to fix this:

  1. In Anki, go to the Tools menu
  2. Click on Empty Cards
  3. Click Delete (leave the box ticked)

This will remove any cards that are missing required content.

If this doesn’t solve your issue, it might be because you’ve accidentally protected a text field in AnkiHub:

  1. Find your deck on AnkiHub
  2. Click the 3 dots in the top right corner
  3. Select Manage protected data
  4. Uncheck the text or extra field
  5. Save Changes
  6. In Anki desktop, go to Browse → click AnkiHub at the top → Reset local changes

For cloze deletion cards specifically, this issue often happens when cloze markers are missing or have been changed (for example, if a card that had multiple clozes like c1, c2, c3 now only has c1 repeated).

Let me know if these steps help resolve your problem!

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

Those cards appear to be from a source other than the AnKing Step deck, as evidenced by their ‘JackSparrow’ tags. I’m not sure how much help we can be there, as they appear not to be AnKing-related cards (despite their location)

This is also evidenced by the AnkiHub-related buttons being mostly grayed out, indicating that the cards are not from an AnkiHub deck.

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Hi,

Thank you so much for clarifying that — that makes sense! I’m currently using the AnKing MCAT deck, and I noticed that some of these cards (like the ones showing “Modified Semantic Network”) appeared within it.

I just wanted to confirm — since I’m using the AnKing MCAT deck and these cards seem to have JackSparrow tags, what would be the best way to handle them? Should I delete those notes, move them to a different deck, or is there a recommended way to properly reformat or relink them so they display normally within the AnKing MCAT deck?

I want to make sure I’m not deleting anything essential or breaking the deck structure.

Thank you again for your help and time!

That’s entirely up to you.

If you don’t want them anymore, you can delete them. If you want them, I would not recommend deleting them. How you choose to organize your local collection will really depend on what you’re wanting to do

Hard to say, unfortunately. Since it’s not an AnkiHub deck, and it’s not a deck that I’m very familiar with, I’m not sure that there is a way to have it formatted appropriately via AnkiHub’s standards. You might have to reach out to the original deck owner, or similar

Since it’s a deck from outside AnkiHub my expertise is fairly limited in adjusting or reformatting it, for better or worse

Happy to help anytime. Please let me know if you have any other questions I can help with. :mending_heart:
